Wilson, Aniston fetch Fox feature
Pair to star in 'Marley & Me'
Posted: Sun., Aug. 19, 2007, 7:30pm PT
By MICHAEL FLEMING
Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston will star in "Marley & Me," the Fox 2000 adaptation of John Grogan's bestselling memoir about an incorrigible Labrador retriever.
David Frankel, who last directed "The Devil Wears Prada" for the studio, will helm; Scott Frank is working on the latest draft of the script.
Plan is to begin production next year. Gil Netter and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.
Marley is the yellow lab adopted by Grogan, a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and his wife. Their idea was to give them a taste of parenthood, but the dog proved to be a hyperactive handful. He wreaks havoc, gets kicked out of obedience school and gets even worse when the children begin to arrive, yet becomes an indispensable part of the family.
Fox 2000's Elizabeth Gabler and Rodney Ferrell have been trying for weeks to pull the cast together in this frenzied climate ahead of a possible strike, and deals are in final negotiations. Pic should shoot early next year.
Wilson will next be seen in the Wes Anderson-directed "The Darjeeling Limited," recently wrapped "Drillbit Taylor" and is filming "Tropic Thunder" for director Ben Stiller.
Aniston recently committed to the Sidney Kimmel Entertainment-financed Stephen Belber-directed "Management," and she is reportedly in talks to play a small role in the ensemble of "He's Just Not That Into You" for New Line. |

I agree. Seems like Jen want just do comedies. But I'm little tired to see her doing this kind of movies. I hope "You are here" will be made next year before this one. |

what is "you are here".?
she's a comedienne.
thats what she does.
it shouldnt matter what the genre of the movie is.
you most likely get different emotions out of her regardless.
so iJust say it doesnt matter. |

"The good girl" proves that she have a lot of potential as drama actress and I'm a bit disappointed to see that she's seems like, I don't know, stuck in a only genre of movie. And I'm so sorry for that.

It doesn't matter what she does but I would hate to see her get pigeonholed into a certain genre of work. Into the endless abyss of romantic comedy actresses. It's not like she doesn't have a slew of dramas in the works. Everyone knows she's funny and great at that, but she is so great at dramas it would be nice to see more of it. I am glad she is starting work again as it gets the focus off of her personal life, but I will be really, really excited when some non comedies get filmed. I was uber excited when Derailed came out. Maybe way too much lol |

I noted in a different thread that I absolutely loved the book - funny, sweet, sad. However, I'm not sure how it will adapt as a movie.
I think Jen probably is going to get pigeon-holed in the romantic comedy genre. That's ok by me. I have a feeling those are the scripts she being sent and quite frankly, it's where she feels the most comfortable. I loved Derailed and enjoyed her in it, but am I imagining things or did she say after the fact, that she knew she would probably not be "accepted" by most in that role. It's why I think The Breakup was a really good role for her. She got to flex her comedic and dramatic muscles. |

| But she can't do the "girl next-door " role forever! she's almoust 40! In Hollywood an actress of 40, is consider old! She need to prove that she's very talented, not only in comedies. Look at Meryl Streep. How old is she? and still she's doing a lot of movies, and that's because during her carrer she show how ductile she is. And Jen should begin do that too. |

Im sure she'll be fine she's doing what she wants to do and thats all that really matters right?
If you don't wanna see her in another comedy, well don't. No one's forcing you. I'm sure she'll do another drama role when a good script comes along. As Jen says, you cant please everyone. |

I really don't care what movie genre she does. I think she is great at everything. I would love for her to do more dramas because I thought she was great in 'Derailed' and 'the good girl' but she is a fantastic comedienne and she probably feels comfortable doing them.
I am so excited to see her on the big screen again. This movie sounds really cute. I love all of her movies and I am sure I will love this one too. |

I really love Jen in comedies and I'm glad that the pressure people put on her (I'm not talking about fans, because I want dramas, too!) don't stop her from doing them. She's good at it, she feels confortable, and I just love seeing her on these movies.
I think she will eventually do more serious films and they actually can wait longer. As someone mentioned, she may not be able to do the "girl next-door" role forever, but dramas she can.
I think she's really smart in her choices and will have more dramas later. Right now I'm enjoying this, I loved all the new projects and I can't wait to see them. |

Owen Wilson and Jennifer, yay. I really have no idea about this movie but the actors are totally fine with me, so I'll see how it turns out.
As for comedy vs. drama, I want to see Jennifer in billions of dramedies 'cause that's my favorite genre. I bet it's also hard to find a good drama piece. With comedies, you can almost judge by seeing who's attached to it. |
