JOHN GOT 5 NOMINATIONS LAST NIGHT!

Grammy Nominations Announced
4-Dec-2008
Written by: Kristin Hunt

Rapper Lil Wayne gets the most nods, followed closely by rockers Coldplay.

The Grammy nominations were announced last night after an hour-long CBS concert special, with Lil Wayne leading the pack with eight nods.

Coldplay was a close second, scoring seven nominations for Viva La Vida, one of the years best-selling albums. Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West followed with six nods, while Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, John Mayer, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan claimed five a piece.

Viva La Vida will go up against Lil Waynes Tha Carter III, Radioheads In Rainbows, Ne-Yos Year of the Gentleman and Robert Plant and Alison Krausss Raising Sand for album of the year. Adele, Duffy, the Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum and Sullivan will compete for best new artist. Previously proclaimed frontrunners Leona Lewis and Katy Perry were shut out of the category, though they received other nominations.

The 51st Grammy Awards will air on CBS on February 8.

On the same day Jennifer Aniston told EW she's longing for motherhood, John Mayer's biological clock seemed to be on his brain at an exclusive Grammy nomination concert.

Before breaking into "Stop This Train," John reflected on Thanksgiving with his family and how his dad is shorter every time he sees him. "You realize time doesn't like you more than anyone else," the 31-year-old said of the aging process. "Now we're holding up people who used to hold us up when we were little babies."

After receiving a standing ovation, the formerly media-friendly rocker skipped the pressroom and party following his concert. Was he running off to meet Jen?

It was mind-blowing. I'm not surprised by the standing ovations and by the fact that it was named the best act of the night.

Mayer: 'Britney must connect with music'

Rex Features
John Mayer has advised Britney Spears that she can overcome any personal problems by concentrating on her music.

The rock star, who is in an on-off relationship with Jennifer Aniston, said: "I really feel for someone like Britney Spears. I just hope that there is a enough of a connection to the music because that is what keeps you going.

"I know for me if I had a crap day and I came home and I didn't have any music to go to, I would be lost. I can always go home and plug in a guitar and go 'that's why I am getting followed around'."

Spears has recently come in for criticism for miming through a performance of 'Womanizer' on last weekend's X Factor.

In the video looks like he had dinner with Rob Dyrdek. He is a professional skater and was on the MTV show Big and Rob. Maybe for his show?
