Friends' Ross Gets to Grips with Womaniser Role

By Sherna Noah, PA Showbusiness Correspondent

Here’s David Schwimmer leaving the role of his Friends alter-ego Ross far behind – by playing a womaniser.

The American actor is set to make his West End debut next month with a lead role in the new play Some Girls.

Schwimmer will tread the boards opposite Troy beauty Saffron Burrows and comedy star Catherine Tate, who play ex-girlfriends.

Vera Drake actress Lesley Manville and London’s Burning and Silent Witness star Sara Powell also play women from Schwimmer’s past.

The new play, by Neil LaBute, at London’s Gielgud Theatre is described as a “wickedly funny expose of the modern male and his take on life, love and the ‘c’ word, commitment?.

The actor joked at a photocall today: “To be knocked about by these four extraordinarily strong, sexy and funny women, that trumps any fantasy I had as a boy.?

The 38-year-old, whose Friends character Ross was usually unlucky-in-love, added: “I feel incredibly lucky.

“Not only do I have the opportunity to work on a new play by Neil LaBute, but I get to be on the London stage, a dream of mine since the age of twelve.?

Stage and screen star Burrows, 32, who plays Bobbi, said: “When I read the play aloud, my heart beats faster. I am really looking forward to seeing what this will become?.

Tate, famous for BBC2’s the Catherine Tate Show, said: “To be doing this play by Neil LaBute, with this cast, is beyond my wildest dreams.

“I cannot believe my luck – and I’m really excited to start working on such a great project.?

Other Hollywood stars to have embraced the London stage recently include Kevin Spacey, Holly Hunter, Christian Slater and Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall – while Val Kilmer and Brooke Shields have also signed up for roles.

Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kathleen Turner, Matt Damon, Friends star Matthew Perry and even Madonna have also appeared in the West End in the past few years.

About a month ago Friends, Jennifer and Matt each won a tv-award in Sweden. Matt gave an acceptance speech laayla Now that Joey is about to start airing here they are showing his acceptance speech as one of the promos. You can view it here: http://www1.kanal5.se/joey/joey5.asp (it starts once the voice over stops talking). It's kind of cute. You can see him reading off this sign on what to say and then in the very end he says: was this for Friends or for Joey? haha. love2

Not so long ago, there was the Sundance Film Festival where both David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow attended. The April 2005 issue of INSTYLE(with Sandra Bullock on the cover) has a whole section about the stars who attended the festival and they are both featured. The article is by Robin Sayers,Monica Corcoran,James Patrick Herman and Suzanne Zuckerman.See below...

THE STARS TALK ABOUT SUNDANCE
David Schwimmer(Duane Hopwood):"When I did theatre in Chicago,we'd do anything to get people in the door. It's the same kind of energy here."

From Happy Endings:................Lisa Kudrow:"I thought I'd never stop crying after watching this film-I was so touched."

This little tidbits are accompanied with pic of David kinda laying down tired on a chair and a pic of Lisa and Maggie Gyllenhaal smiling.[/i]

hey guys, Matthew Perry will be making an appearance on NBC's TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO on this JULY 15th... not sure if it's a repeat because I can't think of anything he has to promote... but then again, his last appearance on this talk show was more than a year ago, and I don't think they'd repeat something so long ago. so maybe it's new, who knows... anyways, just a heads up!

THE STARR REPORT

By MICHAEL STARR
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
September 28, 2005 -- 'Desperate' move

Kelly Monaco has yammered on about the possibility of her appearing on "Desperate Housewives," though nothing's been confirmed yet. Now you can add former "Friends" star Courteney Cox to the list of "Housewives" wannabes.

Life & Style reports that Cox, 41, is negotiating to play "a mental-institution escapee" on a future "House wives" episode. It would be Cox's first appearance on TV since the birth of her daughter, Coco (Cox is married to David Arquette)...

Cox in talks to guest on 'Desperate Housewives'
28/09/2005 - 13:13:15

Courteney Cox is reportedly in talks to guest star on 'Desperate Housewives'.

The 41-year-old 'Friends' star is in negotiations to play a mental institute escapee in a future episode.

It would mark her comeback after the birth last year of her daughter Coco Riley.

Meanwhile, fans of 'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria have a chance to win a date with her.

The 30-year-old has agreed to go on a dinner date as part of a US radio station contest to raise funds for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

According to Extra's website Courteney's rep says this isn't true:

Is Courteney Cox Getting 'Desperate'?
September 28, 2005

The rumors never seem to end when it comes to celebrities, and today we're going cross country to set the latest gossip straight. So from New York to Los Angeles, Dallas to Wisteria Lane, here's your latest edition of Rumor Control!

They've got one of TV's top shows, and now the "Desperate Housewives" may have a new friend. Is it true that Courteney Cox Arquette is moving in to Wisteria Lane as a guest star?

No -- Cox's people tell "Extra" that as juicy as the rumor is, it's not true.

Courteney Cox OK With Daughter Watching TV
Unlike Madonna, Courteney Cox Says She's OK With
Daughter Watching TV, depending on the Program

NEW YORK Oct 19, 2005 — While Madonna doesn't let her children watch television, Courteney Cox takes a different approach. "I like TV," Cox told "Access Hollywood" in an interview that was to air Tuesday. "It all depends what it is."

When asked how she keeps her 16-month-old daughter, Coco, grounded, the 41-year-old actress laughed and responded, "The Wiggles," the popular Australian children's program.

Cox, who is married to actor David Arquette, starred on NBC's hit comedy "Friends."

Madonna told Newsweek she doesn't let her children, 9-year-old Lourdes and 5-year-old Rocco, watch TV or look at magazines.

The 47-year-old singer said milk and ice cream are also off-limits, and she's strict about laundry duties.
