Live with Regis & Kelly, 2002

Jennifer on Live with Regis & Kelly, promoting The Good Girl

Regis: Ok, yesterday's Post. Did you see this?

Kelly: I did!

Regis: I didn't know these two were walking around Manhattan, but they did. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. (shows the newspaper and the picture) Brad's got the, uh, the beard and all. Nice couple.

Kelly: (points) Ok, is this lady on the phone going "You're not going to believe who's walking by me..."

Regis: "You're not going to believe who I just saw. Jennifer Aniston and a guy with a beard are walking by me!"

Kelly: (points) And that lady back there is like "Do you know who I think that was?"

Regis: But of course, they could see the photographer. Y'know, the guy in front, taking the picture.

[...]

Regis: All right, on the show today, Jennifer Aniston. Are you kidding, one of the biggest stars today. (holds up Vogue magazine) On the cover here. On Vogue! Vogue!

Kelly: She's a style icon.

[...]

Regis: All right, you know she's one of the most popular actresses today. Started waiting on tables here in the Upper West Side, quite a few years ago. Of course, now she's one of the beloved stars on the hit sitcom, Friends. Coming out with a new movie, The Good Girl, on Wednesday, here's Jennifer Aniston!

(She comes out, the Friends theme plays, they shake hands, and they sit down.)

Regis: Hi, Jennifer, how are you? Oh my gosh, we were just admiring the cover of Vogue. (holds it up) Isn't that something?

Jennifer: Yeah.

Regis: Everybody loved that. Great.

Kelly: You know, having you here is very funny, because, like, we had Tom Cruise here, and it was like "Tom Cruise is coming, la la la.

Jennifer: That's a big deal.

Kelly: But then, Jennifer Aniston is coming, and we were all trying to figure out what to wear to be pretty for you.

Regis: I decided on blue. (holds out his tie)

Jennifer: How wonderful you guys are. That's a beautiful color.

Kelly: I mean, everyone - stagehands, people backstage, everyone wanted to look nice for you.

Jennifer: Oh.

Kelly: Because we love you so much.

Jennifer: Well, that's so sweet! Thank you! (pretends to cry)

Kelly: We wanted you to be our friend.

Regis: Now you made Jennifer Aniston cry!! Here you go, Jennifer.

(They hand her tissues.)

Jennifer: Thank you, Kelly! [something.]

Regis: Just can't take it anymore. Hey, congratulations on the Emmy nomination.

Jennifer: Thank you, "Reeg."

Regis: Now, how many nominations do you have?

Jennifer: Huh?

Regis: How many nominations do you have?

Jennifer: How many do I have?

Regis: Yeah.

Jennifer: Two? Three?

Regis: It seems like every year, you get one for awhile now.

Jennifer: Does it seem that way?

Regis: Yeah.

Jennifer: It hasn't been.

Regis: Is, is this the last year of Friends?

Jennifer: Yes.

Kelly: Are you sure?

Jennifer: Yeah.

(Audience goes "awww".)

Regis: Ninth year, huh?

Jennifer: Yeah, it's going to, it's going to rip all of our hearts out.

Regis: Yeah, nine years is a long time. I wonder if -

Jennifer: That's the longest thing ever.

Regis: Is that the longest thing -

Jennifer: In my life! That I've ever committed to.

Regis: Well, there's going to be a big finale show, I'm sure.

Jennifer: Yes.

Regis: Everybody going their separate ways. If we made you cry just a few minutes ago, wait till you see this.

Kelly: It's such a dream come true for an actor to have such a great job, and then for it to last such a long time.

Jennifer: I know. And we feel like the luckiest people. And we could do it for years more, but, y'know. It's time to bow out gracefully.

Regis: Time to bow out is right. (to Kelly) That's what they keep telling you, it's time to leave.

Kelly: Well, you know [something.]

(Audience boos Regis for the third time this episode.)

Regis: Gelman, make them stop!! I mean the two of us leave. We do Hollywood too. Why does it have to stop here, at ten o'clock?

Kelly: Cause we, cause they're a unified cast and we're at each others' throats all day long.

Regis: (to Jennifer) Hey, how was it walking down Madison Avenue yesterday? The picture was in the paper, did you see that?

Jennifer: Well, I've heard about it. But that guy was in and out in a moment, he didn't bother us. He didn't bother us.

Regis: Did anybody else bother you? Did they -

Jennifer: New York people are so great. New York people are so -

Regis: But they said "Hi, Jennifer!"

Jennifer: Yeah, they said "Hi Jennifer."

Regis: Yeah, that's great.

Kelly: How come *I* never see Jennifer and Brad? How come I never see the Pitts walking down Madison Avenue?

Regis: Does Brad -

Jennifer: We're never here, that's the problem.

Regis: Does Brad ever talk about me at all?

Jennifer: All the time.

Regis: I'm not kidding. Do you know Brad's mother?

Jennifer: Yes! (laughs)

Kelly: It's her mother in law! They're married!

Regis: I'm laying, I'm laying groundwork here!

Jennifer: Yes?

Regis: Do you know how she feels about me?

Jennifer: Oh. Why? Do you?

Regis: Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. You know who told me? Brad. Yes, we were at a party and he said, "Regis Philbin, come here. My mother loves you." So I went, and I met -

Jennifer: Jane.

Regis: Yeah, Jane. She's a sweetheart.

Jennifer: Say hi to Jane for me. (waves)

Regis: She's a beautiful woman, you know.

Jennifer: I know.

Regis: And she loves me.

Jennifer: She does. See, you've got a thing.

Regis: And I love her. We both love Brad. Is she a good mother in law?

Jennifer: She's a fantastic mother in law.

Kelly: Were you nervous when you met her?

Jennifer: I was terrified.

Kelly: Or were you "I'm Jennifer Aniston, so it's going to be good!"

Jennifer: It doesn't take you far, I gotta tell you, on a personal level. Of course, I was terrified, but they're the loveliest family, and just put me right at ease.

Regis: Yeah.

Kelly: Can I ask you a Brad question? Will we ever see his face again?

Jennifer: I don't know. It depends on what he's working on, how long it actually lasts.

Kelly: You love his face, right?

Jennifer: I love his face.

Regis: Do you love the beard?

Jennifer: I love that face too. The bearded face.

Regis: Oh, the bearded face.

Jennifer: The many faces of...

Regis: (to Kelly) See, she happens to love him. (to Jennifer) How's your new home? You bought a new home together...

Jennifer: It's coming along.

Regis: It's always construction out there.

Jennifer: It never ends. It's going good. But it turned out just to be floors, and y'know.

Regis: Well, you worked here before, in New York City.

Jennifer: Yeah.

Regis: Did a little waitressing on the side as you were pursuing your career?

Jennifer: I did. It was strictly waitressing.

Regis: Strictly waitressing. Here on the West Side.

Jennifer: It was nice of you, though, to say I was actually working.

Regis: And this is the late 80s.

Jennifer: Late 80s, yeah.

Regis: Gelman and I used to have lunch every day on the Upper West Side. Did I ever come into your restaurant?

Jennifer: No, you never did. I would've remembered that.

Regis: Was your restaurant more than twenty dollars a piece for lunch?

Jennifer: No.

Regis: Less than twenty, how did we, how did we miss this one, Gelman?

Jennifer: It was the burger joint...

Regis: Which one was it?

Jennifer: At Jackson Hole.

Regis: Jackson Hole! Great hamburger place. We're going to come back. We're going to be back in a moment, with Jennifer Aniston.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Regis: Jennifer Aniston with us this morning. We're talking about Friends, and wide variety of things, one of which is her new movie, called The Good Girl, which opens this Wednesday, in New York City. So is this role a departure from the one you, you play on Friends?

Jennifer: I sure hope so.

Regis: Yeah. Small town girl...

Jennifer: Small town girl, works at the Retail Rodeo, in a dead end marriage, thinks she's washed up at thirty...

Regis: And wants to escape.

Jennifer: And wants to escape.

Regis: And does she?

Jennifer: She attempts to. But I would be giving part of the movie away.

Regis: Sure. Ok.

Jennifer: I don't wanna do that.

Kelly: But I heard...

Regis: What'd you hear?

Kelly: That you said...

Regis: Yeah.

Kelly: You said you had, you did your first love scene.

Regis: Get out.

(Jennifer has a weird/funny look on her face. The audience laughs.)

Kelly: Let me dispute that right now. Cause I remember from Rock Star...

Regis: You tell her.

Kelly: ...the orgy scene...

Jennifer: There was no orgy scene.

Kelly: Yeah, there -

Jennifer: On the dance floor? (Kelly nods) I was clothed. I was all clothed. It wasn't a love scene.

Regis: Dance floor?! Don't you know an orgy when you see one?!

Jennifer: I was just dancing.

Kelly: I saw some love there.

Jennifer: There was a lotta love.

Kelly: There was a lotta love there.

Jennifer: But it was not a sex scene.

Kelly: Come on. That was sex in our house.

Regis: Well, you dance your [something.] (to Jennifer) Who's your young co-star in this, because as I understand it, the male lead is a little younger...

Jennifer: He's a lotta bit younger. His name is Jake Gyllenhaal.

Regis: Hot, isn't he?

Jennifer: Amazing, and wonderful, and -

Regis: Did Brad worry about him?

Jennifer: No -

Regis: "Can you tell me what's this guy like?"

Jennifer: "Yeah, what's the deal?" No. He's very secure with himself.

Regis: Is he really?

Kelly: Come on!!

Regis: Are you kidding? I know his mother. Jake Gyllenhaal, is that his name?

Jennifer: Yes, yes he is. And he was very young. He was twenty at the time.

Kelly: Was he shaking?

Jennifer: I was shaking. I mean, it felt, it felt wrong.

Regis: So this is, this is the guy you have your first love scene with in front of a camera.

Jennifer: Yeah. And his, too.

Regis: No kidding.

Jennifer: Both movie virgins.

Regis: No kidding.

Jennifer: Yeah.

Regis: Gotta go see this movie now.

Jennifer: Yeah.

Kelly: I'll take you to see it! It's really good!

Jennifer: It's only five seconds of it.Regis: Don't you really see a virgin [something] on film anymore. (audience boos him again) Hey, I'm telling you right now! Whatever I say, Gelman, it gets to them! All right, here's a clip. Here you are with Jake. They're talking in his bedroom. The Good Girl.

(Clip.)

Justine: What are your folks like?

Holden: They're ok. They don't get me. I think they're all right, I just -

Justine: My husband doesn't get me.

Holden: Since when do you have a husband?

Justine: Since seven years. He's a painter.

Holden: What's he paint?

Justine: Houses. He's a pig. He talks but he doesn't think. I'm sick of it. I was looking at you at the store and I saw how you kept to yourself. I saw in your eyes that you hate the world. I hate it too.

(End.)

Kelly: Wow. I love that [something.]

Jennifer: "That was an interesting scene!"

Regis: It ain't Friends. Well, this isn't your first, because you made a lot of features before this, but it looks like movies from now on, huh, with Friends signing off.

Jennifer: If they have [something].

Regis: You're starting a new movie today, aren't you?

Jennifer: Tomorrow.

Regis: With Jim Carrey.

Jennifer: Yes.

Regis: Where's that going to be?

Jennifer: In LA.

Regis: In LA.

Kelly: Oh, that's a shame. I was hoping we'd see the Pitts around town more often. You'll have to come back.

Jennifer: I will come back.

Regis: You love having those Pitts around, don't you?

Kelly: I do.

Regis: The Good Girl, starring Jennifer Aniston opens Wednesday. Thank you, Jennifer.

(They shake hands.)

Jennifer: Thank you.

Regis: Nice to have you.
