Biel would play Sammy Joyce, a socially awkward small-town receptionist who has a nail accidentally shot into her head by a clumsy workman, eliciting wild sexual urges.

The uninsured Joyce goes on a crusade to Washington to fight for the rights of the bizarrely injured. She meets an immoral congressman (Gyllenhaal) who takes advantage of her sex drive and capitalizes on her crusade as Joyce heads into her own career in politics.

Principal photography is set to start in January.

Neither star has a signed contract for the film. Their commitment could depend on juggling other features.

Russell is no stranger to politics. He started as an 1980s political activist before directing the prescient Gulf War drama "Three Kings."

According to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to play Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath in a new biopic for Universal Pictures. David Hollander will write the script once the strike is over, while Andrew Lazar and Jimmy Walsh produce. Though Namath didn't break a slew of records, he is known as football's first player to reach rock-star status. And Gyllenhaal recently became the first man to (pretend) go all the way with Heath Ledger in a tent. So there's definitely a connection there.

Namath is probably most famous for guaranteeing his team a victory against the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, and, as Variety notes, "[He] put the AFL on equal footing with the NFL, paved the way to a merger and helped establish football as a TV sport. He accomplished all of this on knees so bad that draft board doctors refused to send him to Vietnam for fear that they would give out on the battlefield." Recently, Namath has suffered with alcohol issues, going so far as to tell a female sportscaster during live ESPN coverage of a Jets game that he wanted to kiss her and "couldn't care less about the team strugg-a-ling." But I don't think that's the Namath we'll be seeing up on the big screen. Gyllenhaal is currently shooting the film Brothers opposite Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman, and from there he'll dive into a moon expedition flick for Dreamworks and Doug Liman. So don't look for his take on Namath to score a touchdown in theaters anytime soon.

Wasn't sure where to post this but he was Jake's costar in Broke Back Mountain. Heath Ledger was reportedly found dead in his apartment in New York. He was so young, it's all very sad.

Jake Gyllenhaal is struggling mightily with the shock and is desperately leaning on his girlfriend, Reese Witherspoon, to help him cope with the grief he feels over his late pal Heath Ledger, sources tell OK! Magazine. A pal of Jake tells OK! that Reese has been crucial in getting the Brokeback Mountain star through this terrible time.

"Jake calls Reese every night," the friend confides. "He told her he�s having a hard time facing something as big as this." Jake�s first call when he heard about the loss of Heath was to his older sister, Maggie, the report claims.

A Gyllenhaal family insider says Maggie, 30, is trying her best to be there for her 27-year-old brother. After she spoke to him on the phone, the insider says, �Maggie must have been concerned for Jake. I heard he sounded groggy, like he was in a daze. He was mumbling about Heath being gone, his voice was shaky and he was choking back tears during the conversation. I�m sure Maggie could hear the hurt in Jake�s voice.�

Jake, who is godfather to Heath�s 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, with Michelle Williams, feels guilty for not being there for his Aussie buddy. �I bet Maggie�s worried about her brother beating himself up and wishing he had known how bad things were,� says the friend. �There is only so much a person can do.�
