Im seeing Marley again this afternoon. For one thing, Im not absolutely sure that I saw John Grogan in the obedience class scene. A perfect excuse to go back. But honestly, its the best movie Im seen in a very long time and Jens performance is outstanding. Id love to see another Jen and Owen movie because they make a terrific pair.
Thanks Dottie for posting the new numbers. |

Meg-in the Obedience School part-John is toward the end of the group on the right. He's in a grey/black/white print shirt and blue jean shorts...also look for author Dave Berry-he's near Jennifer in the birthday party scene...I remember when they were taping he said it would probably be cut but he's in there. He talked about how nice Owen and Jennifer were and how "nice" Jennifer smelled. It was really funny..he said his wife said down boy!!! |

I remember that with Berry, Kathy, and I will look for him. Somebody, I think Erin, posted a picture of John in that scene, with a very distinctive shirt. I'm going to look up that picture so I can hone in on it. Tell me, do you need as many tissues the second go around. If so, I can carry a bigger handbag. Can't wait until 1:30. I have the ticket already in my grubby little hand. |

Aww, I can't wait to see it again either! I think there are some quiet jokes both Jennifer and Owen make that I will pick up on the second time. The theatre was so loud and crowded the first go-around that I missed some of the lines.
And if I'm not mistaken, didn't John Grogran have on a black hawaiin type button-up? |

I love the title. While I don't totally agree with his analysis of why the movie topped all others, it's a nice read.
BOX OFFICE PROPHETS
Weekend Wrap-Up
Sandler and Pitt Mauled by Adorable Puppy
By David Mumpower
December 28, 2008
Christmas week is among the most lucrative periods on the box office calendar each year. 2008 saw the release of five new titles on Christmas itself, and four of those comprise the top films this weekend. While box office heavyweights Adam Sandler and Brad Pitt starred in heavily hyped projects, North America chose a different face as its favorite: a puppy named Marley.
The industry saved one of the biggest surprises of 2008 for its final weekend. Marley and Me is the number one movie at the box office. The heartwarming tale of newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan and the incorrigible puppy that becomes an inseparable part of their new family proved to be the perfect piece of escapism for consumers with the end result being a magnificent $37.0 million weekend. Including Marley and Me's record-setting Christmas Day performance, the Jennifer Aniston/Owen Wilson comedy has already earned a whopping $51.7 million and will probably cross the $100 million mark by this time next week.
How did Marley and Me prove to be such a dominant success? Like Home Alone before it, this genteel comedy about the very definition of puppy love capitalized on a turbulent time in our continent's history. By being the perfect antidote for people tired of a constant onslaught of depressing news, Marley and Me offered something that the other releases did not. While some of the other films we will discuss in a moment are "important" movies that tell a message and will be recognized by the Academy, Marley and Me was recognized by consumers as being a feature length film version of everyone's favorite viral video, Shiba Inu Puppy Cam.
That silly little distraction is already the most-viewed Internet video of all time (oddly, an Avril Lavigne video had been the champion). With people investing over 800 combined viewer years watching Puppy Cam and almost $93 million watching an inferior version of Marley and Me, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, the success here seems obvious in hindsight. Of course, if you had told me on Monday that this movie with its 50% pro/con reviews on Rotten Tomatoes was going to earn $37.0 million in 3,480 locations at $10,632 a pop, I would have thought you were nuts. Just ask my wife since that's exactly what I told her. Here is my holiday gift to her: You were right and I was wrong about Marley and Me. |

It has? Isn't it just the projections?
Oh, and the official Christmas day number is 14.75 mil, not 14.6 according to 20th Century Fox, per MSN news. http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=345392&affid=100055&silentchk=1& |

No no no no, don't get me wrong, I'm not offended at all, you don't have to delete it. I'm just questioning the article, it seems that those are not the official numbers right? Please, MegFL, keep posting those articles, you're a great contributor! |

The official count won't be out until later but the estimates are coming in. Everything is being counted in two ways because of the holidays the usually weekend estimates over three days( Friday,Saturday,Sunday) and the overall over four days( Thursday,Friday,Saturday,Sunday) starting at Christmas day. Here is the weekend estimates not factoring in Christmas day make of 14 million which would put Marley and Me around 51 million. If you add together 14 million Christmas Day and 37 million over the weekend would equal 51 million as posted by others above. I can't believe that the entire budget of the movie was made back in the first weekend. Hope that helps those confused.
Edit: I thought Bedtime Stories would do much better than it did.
Quote: Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.
1. "Marley & Me," $37 million.
2. "Bedtime Stories," $28.1 million.
3. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," $27 million.
4. "Valkyrie," $21.5 million.
5. "Yes Man," $16.5 million.
6. "Seven Pounds," $13.4 million.
7. "The Tale of Despereaux," $9.4 million.
8. "The Day the Earth Stood Still," $7.9 million.
9. "The Spirit," $6.5 million.
10. "Doubt," $5.7 million.

The weekend expected total is 37 million....add on the 14.7 million Christmas Day and it's around 51.7 million total so far!!!!!The actual numbers will be in tomorrow afternoon! It may vary a tad but the main thing is Marley and Me was number 1!!!! Kamia..I agree-it's almost made it's budget back already!!!That's a great thing..not too many movies do that opening weekend!
