On Anthony Abeson
- “Anthony Abeson was the first man to inform me that I was funny. This news was bittersweet considering the information came just as I exited, having performed Chekov. I came off stage and I said, “they’re laughing at me.” And he said, “I know. They were… .” Awkward silence. “Jennifer, let me tell you something: you’re funny.” Offended, I replied, “I’m not funny, I’m a serious actress.” And he said, “No, no, this is not a bad thing. Go with it. We love funny. Just understand that you can’t use that as a crutch when you need to go deep.” So all these years later, I guess you could say, Anthony Abeson sent me on my path because his words, to this day, resonate in me and in my work. My instinct was to find the funny. He steered me by understanding what was inside of me before I could, and how comedy can be deepened by a dramatic moment and drama can be enhanced by a comedic approach. They’re intermingled; that’s life. Anthony helps his actors find the honesty in every moment. So for any actor to just have a moment with Anthony or a class with him, or by luck, have his words to read and reread, one will be twice or three times the actor for it.
All my love and support,
Jennifer xx”
On Joey Lauren Adams
- “Joey and I met while doing this movie. We got along right off the bat.”
On Ben Affleck
- “I had such a ball. He was so lovely and so funny. And so charming, I mean, just… I loved every minute of working with him. And it was… you sort of sometimes you get an actor and you’re lucky enough to have this easy volley with and we just had a great time.”
- “I’d like to take full credit for Ben [Affleck] being involved. No, I just… I love him, I think he’s great. And I think he was, you know, just seemed really right for the part.”
- “Ben is just really fun, he’s funny, he’s solid. He’s just… he’s a guy’s guy. And he’s just, you just meet people and you’re just comfortable with them pretty instantly. He’s an easy-going actor, a really good actor and it’s fun.”
On John Aniston
- “My dad didn’t want me to go near acting. He wanted me to have a stable job - be a lawyer or a doctor; something other than an actress who would struggle and be broke and be a waitress for the rest of her life.”
- “He never let a day go by where he didn’t let me know that… ‘I’m telling you, it’s not that easy. Please, if you want to make money, be a doctor, be a lawyer. Don’t do this.’”
- “He’s in Topanga Canyon, still on Days of Our Lives—my white-haired papa, handsome, gorgeous man that he is. Always asking me to do something for the Greek community.”
- “My dad didn’t know how to be a great dad. I was a clown, and always sort of getting into trouble in school, and he thought I was a failure and stupid. Whatever. I know, How did he know that was going to be disruptive to me? But I started to doubt myself. The biggest gift he gave me was to say, ‘I’m sorry I wasn’t there.’ He wasn’t. He was bad. He wasn’t a bad guy, but he was typical of his generation. Now he’s a great dad.”
- “He’s a strikingly handsome man. He’s got a mustache.”
- “He gives me great advice. He’s a good business man and he gives me business advice. He’s a good guy.”
On David Arquette
- “I think it’s fantastic that David is doing this [fashion line]. It’s always admirable to step out of your comfort zone and do something creative.”
On Miguel Arteta
- “Miguel is the kindest, most soft-spoken man. It was weird. There was just something about trusting this man. I put my life in his hands and let him go with it.”
On Kevin Bacon
- “Kevin’s very supportive and he’s always there for you when you need him. He also comes up with the most original characterizations to play off of.”
On Alec Baldwin
- “He’s so great. He’s a dream. He’s dreamy.”
On Drew Barrymore
- “I love what Drew Barrymore is doing with directing. It’s so much about a rebirth for her, and I love it when people are living in the now, like her.”
- “[Drew as a boss is] the best. I love her, are you kidding me? Did you see her, did you chat with her. Imagine [working for her] being hard.”
On Jason Bateman
- “At my birthday party in Mexico, it was 10 p.m., and I said to Amanda [Jason's wife], ‘Where’s Jason?’ We’re in Mexico. Everyone’s dancing. And he went to bed. I couldn’t get [him] out on the dance floor.”
- “His sense of humor. One of the things I can really be attracted to in a human being is if we have the same volley that can take place without missing a beat. I find that to be quite fantastic.”
- “He was working on a show that my best friend, [Andrea Bendewald] was on at the time. A show that came and went and she would come home and say, ‘He’s the funniest guy.’ And I was like, ‘I know him from The Hogan Family!’ And we all kind of took it from there a little bit. He was this funny then.”
- “I enjoy having great friendships with men like Jason, who is so adorable. That’s why I’m so happy to have had the chance to work with him lately and see how much his career has taken off again.”
- “He was pretty wild in those days [his 20s], [but] there was something about those dimples and that sweet face [that] made you go, ‘Oh, it’s okay that you just drove up the street backwards in a Range Rover with the door wide open.’ … You feel instantly safe in his company.”
- “Bateman, what can I say? I’m just lucky to have you in my life and yes, our circle of friends has gotten smaller and I feel honored to have you and your beautiful Amanda in it. For years to come.”
- “I’ve known [him and Jason Sudeikis] for so long. They’re such, like, brothers. They’re so good, they’re so fun. Bateman I’ve known for so many years and Sudeikis… it makes you feel really lucky. One gets to work with these guys that are just in their prime. It’s so awesome.”
- “Some of the things that come out of his mouth are just - you have to bite your lip just trying to make it through a scene.”
- “Jason Bateman is just one of the sweetest - I’ve known him for so many years. I met him when I was 25 years old. My friend was doing a television show with him. And he was in a much different mental space back then. But still lovely and great and I’ve just always adored him. He’s just delightful. There’s just nothing about him that isn’t like squeezable.”
- “I hope I’m not being biased but I really think that this is his greatest performance ever. It’s hilarious, it’s also moving and heartbreaking and I just think he’s fantastic.”
- “It was fantastic. It made it so much easier. I felt like I was going to work with my brother.”
- “I will say it. This [The Switch] is his best performance yet.”
- “He is perhaps the most adorable human being on the planet. I’m so glad he’s having a resurgence.”
- “I love [the idea of me co-starring in [the Arrested Development movie]. I actually think I might have asked him if that was possible, if I could do that. Anything to work with Jason.”
- “He should be here, he’s meant to be here, and for whatever reason, it’s taken until now. There’s no bullsh!t with him. Even though he was pretty wild in those days, something about those dimples and that sweet face made you go, ‘Oh, it’s okay that you just drove up the street backwards in a Range Rover with the door wide open.’ I don’t know what was happening there. You feel instantly safe in his company.”
On Stephen Belber
- “That is what’s so honest, he’s a first time director. And that’s why Steve’s character is written as innocently and honestly as he is, you know what I mean? It’s refreshing, as opposed to having somebody come in and trying to overcompensate. And having the willingness to be what he is, a first-time director. And he has such amazing instincts.”
- “Stephen was very honest about what he was on this shoot – a first-time director. It was refreshing, as opposed to having somebody come in and try to over compensate. He asked Steve and I to rehearse together a week before shooting so it felt more like the theater projects Stephen usually works with. We were able to go through the scenes chronologically, which film actors don’t usually have the luxury of doing. I am a huge fan of Stephen’s. He has amazing instincts.”
On Andrea Bendewald
- “[I remember her with] pretty blonde hair and a ponytail, [and I remember that I introduced myself. I asked her what she was doing that weekend, and] if her mother would let her sleep over. [That's how we met.]”
On Chaz/Chastity Bono
- “Every day a group of us would go to Chaz’s house after school. I haven’t spoken to him in a while. Well, obviously, yeah. I mean, even for his - her - mother, I think. His mother. But, you know, good for her.”
On Edward Burns
- “Eddy is just so great, and he is just so available, and he knows what he is doing.”
On Gerard Butler
- “He’s an extremely hard worker, he is unbelievably fun. Not only is he fun to work with but he is so manly. I think what people would not expect is that he’s so unbelievably sensitive and really compassionate. What you see is what you get. It’s nice to have someone to goof around with.”
- “Gerry’s one of the easiest people to get along with. He’s unbelievably personable, relatable, accessable. He’s extremely handsome, very sexy, very kind, sensitive. What else? Funny. He’s just compassionate. He’s a good guy. All about ‘guy.’”
- “We had a tough day learning lines once. It was a three-page scene. For some reason, we could not remember our lines, constantly [going], ‘What’s my line?’”
- “He loved it. He loved throwing me into trunks, loved throwing me over his shoulder, loved hand-cuffing me. He did kind of beat me up a little bit.”
- “We’re both a little of a handful, quite honestly. He’s easy to deal with. I love them [that way.] The feistier, the better.”
- “You don’t get more of a full-blown guy than Gerry. But what makes him so appealing is that he’s also really vulnerable. And without pretense. He’ll be the first person to joke about the fact that he’s been on a cleanse for five days and a cupcake just went by and he just couldn’t help himself. He’s unbelievably likable.”
- “I love how funny he is. I love his sense of humor. It’s what I really love and I love how compassionate he is and kind to people. You know, when you’re talking to him, you really feel like he’s talking to you.”
- “People can’t get enough of this, it just doesn’t make sense. We just have a good time together, we’re really comfortable together, so I guess that means you can’t just be platonic.”
- [Working with such an "ugly" guy as Gerry was difficult.] It’s so hard, I got to tell you, I suffered through somehow, and I had someone off camera that was staggeringly gorgeous, so I could believe what I was saying.”
- “We have [developed a great friendship], and it’s special and that doesn’t always happen. He is one of the sweetest guys. Truly one of the sweetest guys and that’s what’s endearing about him — he’s a guy and he’s also got a heart.”
- “From the moment you meet him, you’re not trying to cut through any pretentiousness or ego or anything. He’s so just a man in a man’s body. We had so much fun. Easy, easy, easy, easy. So much fun.”
- “[On a scale of 1 to 10, our chemistry is] ten. Definitely. I’d say ten.”
- “I enjoy this guy. Charming. Funny. Handsome.”
- “It surprised me how funny he was. Like full on funny, all the way. It’s a rare combo. Inclusive to everybody and sweet to everybody.”
- “I didn’t know what he’d be like in the morning. I have seen him in the morning. He’s lovely in the morning.”
- “We just had so much fun together you know. He’s just fun. Gerry’s the most unpretentious guy. He’s a guys guy, but he’s absolutely the most lovely and sort of self-deprecating and just what you see is what you get. We look at work the same way… we always had each other’s back.”
- “Gerry is just funny. That’s sort of what’s so great about him: he’s absolutely disarming because he’s - you know, here comes this gorgeous, Scottish actor who you think you should be afraid of and he’s really just a softie.”
- “I love my Gerry. We just lucked out - director fantastic, Gerry fantastic, our crew, New York - you just can’t go wrong.”
- “He’s so funny and handsome. I’ve made a note to myself to have more of this.”
On Michael Canale
- “Michael Canale highlights my hair so well - he’s got that touch, the natural touch. And if I want to look funky, he won’t do that.”
On Jim Carrey
- “[Working with Jim was] an amazing challenge for me. It’s pretty miraculous to watch him find his genius, and see how he gets there.”
- “I kind of said Yes to the idea of just working with Jim. I mean, how do you say No to that?”
- “Jim’s fantastic. He’s hilarious. It’s fascinating to watch him. He goes all over the place.
On Vincent Cassel
- “If you’re going to be raped in a movie, it may as well be Vincent Cassel.”
- “He’s just great, frightening - he sends chills down your spine.”
On Patricia Clarkson
- “Did I pick Patricia Clarkson? I was so - I couldn’t believe that she actually said, ‘Yes.’ It was one of those things where I jumped, cried - tears came to my eyes because I couldn’t believe it. Everyone was like, ‘You’re never gonna get her. It’s Patty Clarkson. Do you not understand who you’re dealing with? She’s never gonna get Patricia Clarkson.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, you can always try, though.’ Next thing you know, a day later, ‘Yep.’”
- “Oh, we had so much fun. She’s so gorgeous. She’s just gorgeous in this film. And she’s a trooper and a hard worker and loves - just like, ‘Alright, tell me what you want.’ Wants it, she’s like a sponge.”
- “It was absolutely wonderful to direct again. Especially a project like this. Patty Clarkson. She is so like a thunderbolt in this part. I mean, it is exquisite to watch her.”
On George Clooney
- “Look at Baby George. Baby Clooney. ER was right next door to us on the soundstage. That was really fun. I remember when we used to do crossovers like that. See, NBC used to be really cool. Then, you know…”
- “I’m not a workaholic. I admire people that can do so much work, like George Clooney. He was doing E.R. and Batman. I mean, he was a superhero! I don’t know how he did it. It’s amazing to me.”
On Coco Riley Cox-Arquette
- “I get strict with my goddaughter and I get strict with other people’s kids.”
- “Coco calls me Nuna. I see her almost every weekend and she’s really turning into such a lovely little girl. She’s sweet, funny, and creative and we just sit there in awe of her.”
On Courteney Cox
- “I see Courteney every weekend. It’s our thing. We’ll go see a movie or out to eat or something. We went and saw a horrible movie a while ago - I won’t say the name, but it was bad. I’m the godmother of her little baby girl. No, I shouldn’t have even mentioned it… I.. [it was Dukes of Hazzard]. I’m sorry, but it was just so bad. We left in the middle of it.”
- “[Which lady would I have in mind to be president?] Courteney Cox. Yeah. She would woop everybody’s bum! Courteney knocks stuff out. And she’s fair and honest, and she gets the job done.”
- “She’s my best friend and a very talented comedic actress. She’s like my brother.”
- “First impression of Courteney is [that] she’s on the phone, taking care of business. She’s on and on and on. And I just remember instantly - instantly - feeling so comfortable with her. And then thinking thank God she is as beautiful as she is beautiful.”
- “[Flying] back and forth [to be there for her dad when he was dying] and then coming and putting on a show and making people laugh and her heart was absolutely breaking. That was really tough. But boy, I tell ya, she’s strong. She’s just unbelievably strong.”
- “[Her trouble conveiving a baby] was just - it was tragic. It was - ‘what is the problem?’ You know? ‘Why is somebody not figuring out why this is so difficult?’ It was kind of heavy. And she, poor thing, was getting shots and getting hormones pumped in this way and that way. They’d get there. And we were all so excited. I mean, she would go far, you know? I mean, you see why. It’s like, ‘That is a special creature.’ They cooked [Coco] up for a long time.”
- “I think I demanded to be the godmother [for Coco]? I don’t know if it was that sweet. I think it was like, ‘Or if…!’”
- “She can eat anything. I remember when we were first starting Friends, we’d be shooting still really late at night, doing pick-ups. She’d come in with some sandwich - I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it. I mean, you’re looking at her, she’s a slip of a thing. One of the main ingredients was fritos - in the bread and she’d crunch it.”
- “Courteney has not only been there for me, she’s been there for so many people. She’s just an ultimate mother. She’ll drop anything to be there. She’s the ideal of a beautiful friend.”
- “She’s tough as nails. She’s strong and a dedicated mom and a dedicated woman and dedicated to taking care of her family, and that’s all that matters. I’m just proud of her.”
- “[I see Courteney] at least three times a week. I’m usually there on the weekends. At the beach house.”
- “My girl. And the girl who did my makeup [on Cougar Town] did my makeup on Friends for ten years. It was just a lot of people from Friends, so it felt like going home. And [Courteney and I] just have such easy chemistry together. It didn’t really feel like a job.”
- “When I lived down the beach, we’d always go to Courteney’s house for Sunday barbeque.”
- “Of course, there are certain people who have a face for anything. You can pretty much shave Courteney Cox and she’ll look fantastically gorgeous.”
- “I will do anything for Courteney Cox. Any day, any time, anywhere.”
- “I’d do anything for Courteney. That is known. I would love to be, of course, on [Cougar Town].”
- “[Courteney and Brad Pitt] are both people who couldn’t have been fat, and probably don’t have that gene anywhere in their body. And yet they sure did nail it [on Friends.]”
- “I’d never say ‘no’ to her.”
- “Courteney is the karaoke queen. I don’t get up there - please! I sit in the back and get harassed by Courteney telling me to get up on the stage. She’s relentless, Courteney Cox. She gets up there and just belts one out at the top of her lungs and is a show unto herself. It’s a fun time!”
- “Something she doesn’t know about herself? She doesn’t know how gorgeous she is, has no clue. And I’m not talking physical, because that’s right there in your face when you see it, it’s all the way through.”
- “I would love to [star on Dirt] if I was invited, just to be able to work with my girl again. We have talked about it, we’ve danced around it.”
- “If we were lesbians, we would marry each other.”
- “Courteney’s a neat freak. And thank God, because my dressing room would be a mess if it wasn’t for her!”
- “Courteney’s not stand-offish, she’s not threatened by women, and she doesn’t have to throw her womanliness all over you to show what kind of woman she is. She’s comfortable and that makes you feel comfortable.”
- “From the first day we met, she just dragged me outside and started telling me about her relationships. She draws you in. She’s the all-around friend and the ultimate loyalist.”
- “She’s been there for me in a lot of ways and she really is just the most dependable and loyal and funny as all get out. I mean, she just cracks me up. Constantly.”
On Charlie Day
- “Once we got used to each other after I had to climb on top of him in lingerie, our first day, he was just - he’s so innocent. He’s so new to this, you know, business. And he’s so skilled.”
- “Charlie was such a sweetheart. We didn’t really - we were constantly getting to know each other while we were in between straddling scenes.”
- “I just felt bad for Charlie Day, having to, you know… We met and 20 minutes later, I’m straddling him in lingerie.”
- “I felt so sorry for Charlie! Our first day was basically me squirting his crotch with water and then getting to know you between takes, you know? ‘How long [have] you been married?’ and ‘Where are you from?’ and ‘How’s your show?’”
- “I think watching Charlie’s face react would make me lose it sometimes.”
- “My thing was just, ‘I hope the girls stay in school.’ And just trying to be very smooth in my actions. Careful. Poor Charlie. It was just Charlie and me in the room. I was constantly apologizing to Charlie in between. The first day, having to squirt his little penis with water and - I didn’t say ‘little penis’, did I? What a terrible thing to say.”
- “The truth is, when you get there, you go, ‘Oh, God. Now I have to do this.’ Like, in front of people. All of it is a little - you forget that the scene where I’m blackmailing him with the photos - you think it’s so hysterical and great but then comes the day when you actually have to straddle sweet Charlie Day with his pants down and it’s just that day. Like, ‘Oh God. I chose to do this, right?’”
- “I love him. He’s outstanding. He’s so sweet.”
- “Charlie is great. You work off of him and his little energy.”
- “Within 20 minutes, I was straddling him in lingerie. But Seth [Gordon, the director of Horrible Bosses] never stopped laughing and we were all in perfect sync; if anything, after every take we’d be thinking, ‘let’s push it a little further.’ I was bizarrely comfortable in these scenes, almost more so than I would be playing the normal girl-next-door, and every scene was kind of crazy but that was really the fun of it.”
On Judy Davis
- “I have been a fan of Judy for years and I had a moment when she popped into my head [to play my boss in The Break-Up."
On Brooklyn Decker
- "She didn't know what to do [when Adam and I started to go crazy], poor thing. She just literally - [Adam and I]‘d be absolute, like, ding bats together and going on and on and on, speaking, like, another language and she just sits there - She’s so good.”
- “She’s so sweet, that girl. She’s just darling and like the nicest person. And oh my God, you should see her and [her husband] Andy Roddick walk into a room. It’s like, really?”
On Cameron Diaz
- “Cameron Diaz is gorgeous and has a lot of style.”
- “It was so wonderful to see Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich. You think, ‘Good. This is what actors do. They play many roles.’ Cameron’s not just a beautiful girl, she’s much, much more.”
On Tate Donovan
- “Tate is a wonderful, warm guy — he’s one of the goods ones. We’re not getting married — not that I know about. But the newspapers have already had us married and broken-up and me dating a wrestler….”
- “Fans were shocked to see me dating anyone other than Ross. However, we were never engaged.”
- “He’s so real, so honest, so funny, so kind and considerate. He’s all these things meshed into one perfect guy.”
- “It’s just a great relationship, you know. Honesty and communication are the two most important things, I think, that we share. I think that makes any relationship work.”
- “We help and support each other. There’s no competition or jealousy. Tate understands what I’m going through. He’s such a great actor. It’s great to be so impressed with your partner.”
- “I don’t feel nervous in front of him at all.”
- “Communication. Total honesty. Neither one of us has ever explored that far as we have now, and it’s the key. And respect.”
- “A boyfriend who’s heaven.”
- “He’s so real, so honest, so funny, so kind and considerate. He’s all these things meshed into one perfect guy.”
- “He is unbelievably sensitive and funny and warm. He’s like a spirit. I don’t think I’ve met one person that doesn’t like him.”
- “His parents are still together, he’s one of six kids, and they were all really happy to see him. We sat around a big table in the house he grew up in. I envy that so much. I don’t go for the big planned-out romantic gesture, but when he showed me his old bedroom, it was pretty romantic.”
On Nancy Dow
- “I was a teenager [when I watched The Graduate]. And my mom, she says she was in a scene of The Graduate that got cut out. She worked at the hotel. I don’t know. She says it. She says a lot of things.”
- “I watched my mother be very bitter and angry throughout a divorce, never let it go and waste the whole second half of her life, so I thank her for that unconscious sacrifice of what not to do.”
- “I remember that. [Shirley MacLaine] came into my trailer and said, ‘You have lost a mother, too.’ In a way, I had. We hadn’t spoken in years. But I’m talking to her now. I called her because I went through a divorce. I finally had some compassion for her. So I called her.”
- “The weirdest thing happened to me. It was a Sunday, and I was having a little bit of a down day. I hadn’t had a down day in so long that it threw me. I had been feeling so good. So, I got out my astrology book and started reading. Then I went out and sat on my deck and looked at the ocean. That’s when things speak to me. All of a sudden, like on the CNN crawl on the bottom of the screen, I saw this telephone number. I thought, ‘What the hell was that?’ I kept looking at the number, and it dawned on me that it might be my mother’s number. I hadn’t called that number in eight or nine years. I had thought about calling her so many times in the past, but never did. So, I picked up the phone and dialed the number. And there she was. [The number] was in my head. It was like the CNN crawl. It was just a number that flashed across my mind. I had to call the number because God was talking to me. Somebody was talking to me.”
- “[When I called my mother again after we hadn't spoken to each other in 8-9 years] she almost fell through the phone. I said, ‘Hi Mom, it’s Jen.’ And she said, ‘You’re kidding? Get out of here.’ I said, ‘No, it’s me.’ And she said, ‘Jennifer? Jennifer Aniston? My kid?’ [It wasn't awkward.] It was like we had just spoken a minute ago. The first thing she said was, ‘Jennifer, what on earth?’ She had never met my ex-husband. Isn’t that amazing? We had stopped speaking right before Brad [Pitt] and I started dating. But it was wonderful to speak to her again. We knew what we were doing. We knew we needed this break for whatever reason. We were too co-dependent. She said she knew I was OK [when I was going through my divorce]. I had to get to a place where I was strong enough in myself that I wouldn’t fall back into the ‘little girl Jen thing,’ because that’s what was not good.”
- “My mom wanted me to do whatever I wanted to do and she was going to stand by me the whole way through.”
- “It’s good that she’s got her rules, but you also want to go, ‘Mom, lighten up!’”
- “That woman, when she got mad, was scary. She’s changed. She’s humbled with age. She fell in love. At 73 years old. I’m like, No, no, no, no, no! I don’t want to hear how great the sex is! I got, I got, I got it, I got it!”
- “She made a mistake … I don’t think she knew any better - obviously. I’ve definitely tried. I made the efforts, and I’ve sort of started … you know, it’s that stubborn thing of, ‘Well, I tried… I tried enough. Now it’s your turn.’”
- “At some point in my life, I hope my mother and I will get together… unfortunately that got dragged out into the public eye. This is a wound that needs to heal slowly and times does that. And we love each other.”
- “I never thought my mom would not know my husband.”
- “There are times I feel I gave my mom unnecessary stress.”
On Adam Duritz
- “Adam was the only true story. Everybody thought we were this hot and heavy couple, and we were just getting to know each other. It took it in a direction I didn’t want… But I made a wonderful friend, so that’s good.”
On Aaron Eckhart
- “[It was] the most fun [working with him.] I mean, you know, Vancouver is a tough place to be in the winter - it’s cold, it’s dark - and we worked nights a lot and we just held each other up. We had a great time together.”
- “He’s one of the most….first of all, I’m such a fan of his and one of the main reasons I took the job was because I wanted to work with Aaron.”
- He’s just great and so talented. And has such a wicked sense of humor. And you just don’t know what’s gonna come next. And he’s really interesting; he loves philosophy and psychology and it’s nice. He’s got soft spots.”
- “Isn’t he cute? What do they call it? The cleft.”
- “We got along so great. We just made each other laugh and he’s just funny and interesting and he loves psychology and philosophy and we just found endless things to talk about.”
- “[He's] so unbelievable in this movie, [Love Happens.] I was so blown away - I saw it a couple of months ago in New York. Me and Leigh. In the theater. I mean, I tell you I had - I just couldn’t bel- we just couldn’t stop, we had no tissues, not even prepared that that was about to take place. Cause it’s so unexpected. I mean, it is a really unexpected story.”
- You almost can’t imagine anybody else playing Burke. He’s so spot-on and so wonderful in this movie, [Love Happens.] He moves you so much and he’s just great - again extremely dedicated and focused and you know, it’s fun.
- “I’m such a fan of his. He has the driest sense of humor. He’s so entertaining. He’s so into philosophy and psychology, which I love. We can talk for hours. He’s a great photographer. He’s just interesting. And he’s, really, I mean I think he’s so absolutely beautiful in this movie. He’s just beautiful and funny. He’s just a really entertaining and enjoyable person to spend time with.”
On Jill & Jewels Elmore

On Melissa Etheridge
- “She’s the coolest chica on the planet… and she’s a good role model.”
On David Frankel
- “I met him and he’s so lovely. He has such a great heart and I had a great feeling about [doing Marley & Me with him].”
On Morgan Freeman
- “Of course getting to be in the presence of Morgan Freeman was pretty much one of those dreams come true. And he was godlike, seeing that striking face in a white suit. He was phenomenal.”
- “Morgan Freeman, very sweet man. Makes you feel - you tremble in his presence.”
On Jeremy Garelick and Jay Lavender
- “That was sort of said, when I come into it we’ll flesh out the female voice a little bit more [in the script]. But in a way of like, ‘We’re dudes, you know. I don’t know how the female side would respond.’ And they were great about it and they made it so much fun truthfully, because it’s universal, the relationship. Everybody can relate to these [characters]. It’s fun, you kind of go back to all the relationships in your life and you sort of remember funny arguments or funny moments or things that you can apply to it. Like for Jeremy, the twelve lemons argument actually happened for him, as I’m sure it’s happened for everybody. Those things are endless. It’s an endless well.”
On Josh Gordon and Will Speck
- “I love our directors so much. Such a beautifully choreographed combination and collaboration.”
On Seth Gordon
- “He’s fantastic because he just lets you go and play. He knows what he wants, he’s very specific in his sort of very relaxed kind of way of working. Really refreshing as the actor ’cause I trust the director.”
On Jake Gyllenhaal
- “From the minute we met at this audition at Mike’s house, he kinda just blew us all away. We all fell instantly in love with him.”
- “He’s just one of the sweetest, so funny, charming, professional, solid actors. He’s just a sweet, sweet guy. And he comes from this amazing, talented family. And er… he’s a love. It’s impossible not to just melt and instantly know what you’re doing with him. We had a rough time, like I was saying before, just in terms of, you know, this schedule that we had.”
- “We’d sit there and scream at… vent to each other, or cry on each other, which we did… I did many times.”
On Mikael Håfström
- “For me - this was such uncharted territory that I felt such a trust in everything that he said. You know, you have that instinct. There was never a debate. There was never questioning. And for something like that, that was really important. And also having seen Evil, and meeting with him and [hearing] his take on how he wanted to play this, it was just unbelievably intriguing, because it’s a very uncomfortable reality. There’s a lot of discomfort watching this movie and, put into the wrong hands, it could have easily gone that high-concept, glossy, slick thriller [route] and it’s just not. It’s far from it.”
- “He underplays everything, he’s delicate and focuses on this love story in a beautiful way. It makes it feel like an old movie from the 70′s. It just feels right.”
- “He’s so specific, and he has such impeccable taste. You know that he won’t stop until he gets exactly what he wants. And, when he says, ‘I got it,’ you just walk away.”
On Kristin Hahn
- “I think she’s just a channel for brilliant material. She sees things from a different perspective, and there are things she’s attracted to that are not your everyday run-of-the-mill ideas. She’s lucky that way. And she’s a writer, so she works with writers like nobody’s business.”
On Kristin Hahn & Andrea Bendewald
- “But it was an amazing rite of passage for us, with those two being my bridesmaids, my maids of honour. They are my girls and I just love them, and it was sort of profound and beautiful.”
- “Kristin’s the revolutionary pioneer woman. Andrea is mom; I mean, Kris is literally mom, but Andrea really is mom. I don’t know what the hell I am. I’m kind of the carefree child that gets spanked once in a while. The one that gets wrangled in.”
- “With each of us, well especially me, Kristin and Andrea - our families are wonderful, but they definitely weren’t easy. It was hard for them to understand these other people always being there - my mother especially. I know she puts my life down a lot. She didn’t understand how special and protective these people were. If only she knew, I think she would have felt less threatened and embraced them.”
On John Hamburg
- “John’s an incredible writer and such a good director. When I read the script, I laughed - I mean, bent over laughing sometimes - throughout the whole thing, and that just doesn’t happen that often. He doesn’t shy away from a really embarrassing or outrageous situation, because we get into those just being human. But it’s also smart and moving, and he is very specific and knows exactly what he wants on the page and in the scene. What’s really great is it’s character driven, it’s not one of those romantic comedies with some device like ‘the lie’ or ‘the letter’ or ‘the false boyfriend to con each other.’ Getting romantic comedy right is hard, and John does it - and makes it hilarious as well.”
On Chelsea Handler
- “Chelsea, I love you. Can’t believe I got you up before 12. On Hollywood Boulevard, without a bail bondsman here. You’re a true friend, honey, I love you.”
On Woody Harrelson
- “With Woody, he was brave, I never laughed harder. I’ve known him for a long time. I remember reading the scenes over the phone to him, and playing both of our parts, and then him cracking up. And I said, ‘See!’ It was so funny. And he was in.”
- “Woody was the directors first choice to play Sue’s husband in the film but he passed on the project because he didn’t like the character. So (director) Stephen rewrote the script and asked me to get Woody on the phone. I actually made a long-distance call and read parts of the script to Woody until he was convinced. I’m so glad he signed on – we had a blast working together.”
- “It was impossible [to keep a straight face when acting opposite Woody]! Woody and I started cracking up before we even got to the set when we were reading the script to each other on the phone. Laughing while the cameras are rolling on the set is fun, but you’re not supposed to do it. That only makes it harder not to laugh, of course!”
On Nicole Holofcener
- “I think Nicole Holofcener is such a good writer, who captures the human spirit so well on the simplest level.”
On Nick Hytner
- “Now I’d never gotten a letter from a director in my life, but [director Nicholas] Hytner wrote me after that audition. His letter said, ‘There are so many reasons why an actor is cast, and it’s all political and had nothing to do with your talent. Someday, hopefully, we’ll work together.’ It was the loveliest letter I’ve ever received and I thought it was so kind. There are so few kind people in the world, much less this business, who don’t have some odd agenda. He’s just such a wonderful man.”
- “Now I’d never gotten a letter from a director in my life, but, Nick Hytner wrote me after that audition, it said, ‘There are so many reasons why an actor is cast, and it’s all political and had nothing to do with your talent. Someday, hopefully, we’ll work together’. It was the loveliest letter I’ve ever received and I thought it was so kind. There are so few kind people in the world, much less this business, who don’t have some odd agenda. He’s just such a wonderful man.”
On Mandy Ingber
- “I’m hosting this party because Mandy has been one of my best friends for 20 years and she’s sort of become, you know - is an amazing teacher and has been becoming that over the last twelve years. I didn’t start working with her until about five years ago.”
- “She is responsible for my spiritual and physical strength.”
On Angelina Jolie
- “There was stuff printed [in Angelina Jolie's Vogue article] that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss. That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.”
On Marta Kauffman/David Crane
- “Marta and David were smart enough to keep [Ross and Rachel] apart as long as they could. Everybody was finally like, ‘Just do it already.’ It was good manipulation on the writers’ part to keep them apart as long as possible.”
- “They created a family. You know, Marta and David went to college together. They’ve had such a history together. Everybody else started so young and fresh, and not having anything to compare it to, and I think Kevin, Marta, and David set the tone for this family. Big group dinners, group watching of the shows, group this, group that. We did a lot of group activites. Also, this is their vision, their lives. I mean, for Marta and David, these are all people in their lives Monica, Rachel, Ross, and all of these characters. They are people from their personal lives and they set the stage for what’s happened here.”
On Diane Keaton
- “I would love to work with Diane Keaton; I think she’s just wonderful.”
On Catherine Keener
- “In her performances, the audience has a doorway into what she’s feeling - we can see into her heart.”
- “My buddy. She’s great - that’s great. She’s also a little pitbull when it comes to anybody trying to mess with you, so I was just lucky.”
On Nicole Kidman
- “Have you ever seen a six-pack like that? I actually had to touch it. We got very close. When [Adam] wanted to touch it, he had like 400 guys [bodyguarding Nicole] but I was able to go, ‘Can I just touch it?’ And it was insane. There was little Sunday Rose in there at ome point.”
- “I wasn’t surprised [that she's funny]. To die for. And it was so funny. She’s just one of the greatest actresses. She commits a 140 - 150! - percent. I mean, The Rabbit Hole?! No wonder she wanted to come to do [Just Go With It] and ding-dong with us.”
- “Nicole and I were brass skirt virgins.”
- “I had met her before and she was immediately disarming, so I knew how great of a girl she was. I knew how funny she was. She pretty much can do anything.”
- “Nicole was so sweet. She would always feel really bad after she had to do something a little snarky to me. We’d cut and she’d just come over and be like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ It’s so sweet.”
- “I don’t know why that beautiful woman doesn’t do more comedies. She is absolutely hilarious.”
- “[She's the] easiest person to hang around, and fun and funny.”
On Leah Kilton-Smith
- “I got the movie called The Good Girl and I was like, ‘Um, Leigh, I’ve got to put my tail between my legs and do it.’ So anyway, the first thing she did was put weights on my hands because she said I talk with my hands too much.”
- “I don’t have any kind of method, I don’t have any kind of, you know, tools really. I just kind of go off of what’s happening. I mean, I have a woman that I work with, Leah, who is an amazing acting coach and we explore and we talk and we break down.”
On Steven Klein
- “Steven Klein is such a fantastic photographer. He really does - it’s so cinematic in his approach. So he really had a whole synopsis to [the W photoshoot with Gerard Butler.]”
On Kris Kristofferson
- “I was very happy to have him [on the set of He's Just Not That Into You]. I love him very much. He flew a helicopter into Johnny Cash’s backyard, [that's how cool he is].”
On Lisa Kudrow
- “Lisa does have a big huge heart. She likes to say she is stand-offish and cold but she’s like a warm fire.”
- “Dearest Lisa Kudrow, who’s also one of the most talented actresses. I’ve learned so much from [her]. As a comedienne, unbelievable. But also a dramatic actress who knocks your socks off. And loving. These girls, what we’ve gained from each other. Taught each other, we watched each other get married, lived through so much… and just so unconditional. And I think she’s amazing and I love [her].”
On Ken Kwapis
- “Ken Kwapis is probably one of the kindest men I’ve ever worked with. I mean, he’s gentle, he’s kind and to everybody. He’s not one of those who’s just nice to the talent and then yells and freaks out at his crew. He’s just, he’s a genuinely kind man. And it’s really refreshing to see. He remembers people’s names, the crew members, the hair and make-up department, the, you know… that’s a very special quality that people sometimes forget.”
On Jay Lavender and Jeremy Garelick
On Matt LeBlanc
- “When Mattie’s shoulder popped out of his body [while jumping on the couch during the filming of 'The One With the Jam'] - I will never forget that. That was year three of [Friends] and it feels like a minute ago.”
- “Matt is just heaven. He has such heart - that’s Matt LeBlanc, he’s just a big love. I always laugh at our past because I used to be terrified of him. He was leather, head to toe - one of those guys. And all you’re thinking is, ‘Oh, he’s going to try to get me into bed. I can just see it a mile away.’ Then he turned out to be the sweetest, most lovable man. He works really, really hard. I just love him. He’s a brother. He’s like the brother that I have, but here.”
- “It’s like having three brothers, and we hate them like brothers and we love them like brothers. They’re your typical ‘boys.’ If you were to look up the term ‘boys’ in the dictionary, you’d see their three smiling faces looking back at you.”
- “I remember the producers saying they never expected Joey to be so loving and warm. Matt just oozes those qualities and they’ve rubbed off. He’s one of the sweetest people ever.”
- “LeBlanc is the biggest teddy bear on the planet.”
- “Le Blanc, who is just the best big brother to me. Young? Big brother, [he is] older than me. Just a little bit. I feel so protected by Mattie. Talk about someone who can read me a mile away… I know I seem obvious but… I’ll be standing there and I see him giving me this look and he says, ‘Come over here, sit down, talk.’ And he just gets you to lose it, if there’s something to lose. Or figure something out. He’s just amazing. One of the dearest, loving… ya know? I love [him].”
- “Matt is just heaven. He has such heart-that’s Matt LeBlanc, he’s just a big love. I always laugh at our past because I used to be terrified of him. He was leather, head to toe-one of those guys. All you’re thinking is, “Oh, he’s going to try to get me into bed. I can just see it a mile away.” Then he turned out to be the sweetest, most lovable man. He works really, really hard. I just love him. He’s a brother. He’s like the brother that I have, but here.”
On Simon Le Bon
- “He was very cute. He had a very sexy voice.”
On Juliette Lewis
- “Juliette Lewis is scene-stealing and mesmerizing. And gorgeous in every way. I love that woman.”
On Lindsay Lohan
- “I don’t envy Lindsay Lohan [in terms of the way the media harrasses her]. Poor thing.”
On Shirley MacLaine
- “She’s fantastic and everything that you would imagine and more. We had this bizarre connection, dare I say past life connection.”
- “[What can I learn from this woman?] Name it. I don’t have enough time to tell you.”
- “You know, I had a very difficult time in the beginning of this movie because I didn’t understand my character. Shirley is so good with character, and she was able to get me back on track.”
- “It was easy. It didn’t feel like I was working. There was an instant chemistry. I feel related to her. Our relationship in life is similar to our relationship in the movie. We’d have great conversations about life. That doesn’t normally happen on a set.”
- “I was excited [to meet her]. I mean, sure I was like nervous and got star struck, but she’s immediately just right there with you on your level and she talks to you as though you’re a human being. Amazing! You know, you never know. Cause I’ve had the experiences where you meet your idols and you just go, ‘Oh I wish I kept you up there. Stay up there, I’ll eat the popcorn, you do the work.’”
- “[Shirley says she has met me before, in another life.] That’s why we have such a connection, ’cause we’ve met many times before. She gave me a psychic shield.”
- “I worship this woman ever since I can tell you. She has been one of my great idols. I still can’t believe that I’ve been able to do this. Look across at her and just play with her. She’s fantastic. She’s absolutely fantastic in every way.”
- “Shirley is the definition of a firecracker. I’ve worshipped this woman - she is one of my idols, and I still can’t believe that I had this opportunity to work with her. She’s absolutely fantastic in every way.”
On John Mayer
- “We care deeply for each other, and we’re just trying to figure it out.”
- “I am not having his baby. And I have not popped the question.”
- “Honestly, I did not know much about him before I met him. I’d heard… you know, uh, ‘Your Body’—that song. But what I can say is that I had no idea what an extraordinary musician he is. And it’s just great to sit and be witness to that. It’s kind of like, Whoa! ”
- “We support each other. It’s a great thing. Really, it’s nice. I’m really - I’m so happy about it. Happy he’s here [at the premiere of Marley & Me].”
- “Barely knew his music. And then we ran into each other a week later, and that was that.”
- “He had to put that out there that he broke up with me. And especially because it’s me. It’s not just some girl he’s dating. I get it. We’re human. But I feel seriously protective of him and us. Trust me, you’ll never see that happen again from that man. And it doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a wonderful guy. We care about each other. It’s funny when you hit a place in a relationship and you both realize, We maybe need to do something else, but you still really, really love each other. It’s painful. There was no malicious intent. I deeply, deeply care about him; we talk, we adore one another. And that’s where it is.”
On Chris McMillan
- “I believe you earn your friendships. You earn the trust; you earn all of it. There have been times when I was there for him. And times when he’s been there for me. We’ve gone through a lot over the years. And It’s grown into a beautiful friendship.”
- “Right before Friends started, I got a new manager. She took one look at my hair and said, ‘We’ve got to do something about that.’ To tell the truth, I didn’t think there was anything really wrong with it. My hair was something I never really thought about. But she sent me to a salon, and there was Chris McMillan. He threw me in a chair, stuck an apron thing on me, and just hacked my hair off. That was 1994, and by now, Chris and I understand each other well enough that he’d never get away with that nonsense. You know when you get to that place where you have shorthand with someone? You don’t have to translate what you like and don’t like and what your personality is? That’s what we have. With Chris, I have this great luxury of getting to work with one of my dear friends.”
- “I get tired of stuff quickly. I always think my most recent cut is the best one. And of course, Chris refuses to do it again. We fight constantly. He thinks I’m a closet hairdresser. I’ll take the hair-dryer right out of his hands. He’ll kill me for saying this, but I’ve surpassed him in that department: I’m faster with the blow-dryer. Of course, It doesn’t look like it does when Chris does it, but I don’t always want to look refined. Or I’ll yell at him because he has this thing about chopping my hair off. I like having hair. A girl and her hair, well, come on…”
- “Here’s how we get ready for an event: Chris will say, ‘What do you want to do?’ And I’ll say, ‘I don’t know. What do you want to do?’ And then something comes of it. Occasionally, he’ll look at my dress, and if it’s severe, he’ll give me more tousled hair. When I’m on my own, I’m pretty low-key. But Chris will continue to try to sell new looks to me. He’s a big fan of the side ponytail. And I’m not buying.”
- On Chris McMillan - “He is, of course, hair obsessed and I’m a Barbie doll for him. So, whenever we’d see great pictures of Barbra or a movie, he’d be like, ‘You have to do an homage to Barbra.’”
- “[The Bazaar shoot] is an idea that Chris McMillan, who is my hairdresser and I’m his Barbie doll, basically has been saying that he’s wanted to do this for years, and why don’t you, ’cause then he could use my head as a Barbie doll.”
- “I’d lay myself at his feet. He’s not just about the haircut. He’s all heart.”
On Alexander McQueen
- “[His death is] heartbreaking. It just doesn’t make any sense.”
On John Melick
- “Once, when we were young, he made me watch Friday the 13th, after which I went into the bathroom. He’d snuck in there first and hid behind the shower curtain, then jumped out, wearing this horrible mask that had eyeballs falling out and snakes for hair. I let out a scream and… Well, let’s just say it was a good thing I was sitting on the toilet.”
- “You know what I got my brother for Christmas? A Bronco. He just cried. He was just like ‘No way, no way, no way!’ And he held me and wouldn’t let go, and I felt his body trembling. For the first time, I saw this boy, this man, just lose it.”
- “He’s a cool guy.”
On Demi Moore
- “And my God, let’s talk about how much I love Demi Moore as well. What kind of Kool-Aid is she drinking?”
On Michelle Obama
- “Michelle is pretty fantastic and inspiring. I met her and Barack Obama right at the beginning of their campaign, and how great it is for us to be witness to this moment in history.”
On Clive Owen
- “We had such a good time. And I think we needed to, because of the nature of what we were doing.”
- “Yes, absolutely [as dreamy as Julia Roberts said]. And then some.”
- “[I was surprised by how] normal and down to earth [he is]. And funny. I always thought of him as serious, and he’s got a very hilarious sense of humor. And just very kind. He wasn’t the actory type you can meet.”
- “I just felt really protected and taken care of. And then we’d have our proper amount of fun when we were done.”
- “We didn’t know until we were there [if we would have chemistry]. Considering the tone of the movie, we had a lot of fun. I think we had to have a lot of fun to counterbalance what was going on.”
- “It was great. It was instant ease and comfort. That doesn’t always happen. It was very easy to work together. We sort of had similar sensibilities about how to approach what it was that we were doing. One didn’t have a different method.”
- “I had just gotten the [Derailed] script FedExed to me. I open up the envelope and it says Derailed, starring Clive Owen. And I was like, Wow, Clive Owen. I love Clive Owen! I can’t wait to read this. We go down to lunch and we’re all talking, and out of the blue Julia [Roberts] goes, ‘Has anybody worked with Clive Owen?’ She’d just finished Closer. And I said to myself, That’s an omen. And I told her about the script. And she said, ‘Well, honey, if you can, you have got to work with him, because he is dreamy.’”
- “Oh, he’s just a dream, he’s dreamy. He’s fantastic. Really he’s one of the great ones in terms of his talent and his charm. I mean, he’s tall, dark, and handsome, and then there’s just something that he brings to the screen that is indescribable, and you just want to watch him. There’s just so much going on behind those eyes.”
- “I’ve been a fan of his ever since Croupier.”
- “Of course, Clive Owen didn’t hurt and he truly is as wonderful a person as he is an actor.”
- “He’s basically tall, dark and handsome.”
On Matthew Perry
- “He’s not just a funny guy but he’s also very sensitive. He’s just a good guy. Not a guy’s guy.”
- “Oh God, when you are faced with the reality that you may lose a friend that way [to drugs]? There was a possibility that we were going to lose him. Forget the show, his life. That was our main concern. And we were wondering, is everybody doing what we’re supposed to be doing here? We were terrified for him. And yeah, we got pissed. And we got pissed at him for not loving himself, and we got pissed because we were inconvenienced, and it wasn’t ending. That’s just sort of the human side of it. Then the other part of it is goddamn, you better get better, and thank God he did. And he’s here, and he’s better than ever ever. I mean, truly, and I’m sure one of Matthew’s great fears was like the tortured artist: What am I without my drugs? Now he’s beyond all that. He’s tapped into an emotional part of himself that we all knew was there, but I don’t know if he knew was there.”
- “It was hard to hear [that Matthew Perry had to check himself into a medical center because of his drug addiction] but he’s doing great. We’re really proud of him. And happy for him.”
- “I’m distracted. Not distracted. I just think. I go in my head. People make fun of - Matt always makes fun of me because I’ll go off and - I go ‘in the zone.’”
- “It’s like having three brothers, and we hate them like brothers and we love them like brothers. They’re your typical ‘boys.’ If you were to look up the term ‘boys’ in the dictionary, you’d see their three smiling faces looking back at you.”
- “He’s a good guy, not a guy guy. He’s a child in a man’s body.”
- “Matty’s one of the most sensitive people I’ve ever met, more than most girls I know. His feelings get hurt. He cares what people think. He even bruises easily.”
- “He really helped me when I was going through a relationship problem. He’s a great listener.” (1995)
- “Unfortunately, he’s in the public eye, so his experimentation is out there, and I guess it went too far. Matthew is not even a drinker. He’s, like, a pure person. He’d almost frown on you if you had one too many glasses of wine and were getting silly.”
- “What people may not know about Matthew Perry is that he’s probably one of the most sensitive people. As well as being funny and a genius. He’s very smart, plays tennis and I think [he] can speak French? He’s a really strong, supportive dear friend.”
- “I’m going to miss Matthew Perry making me laugh and then making me cry.”
- “I’m an excellent driver, really. Although I’m sure that Matthew Perry would beg to differ - he said I was the worst driver in the history of drivers and that if he knows I’m going somewhere in my car, he stays home. But he drives a black Porsche. It’s tiny. Porches are a tiny little extension of a man’s umm, male self.”
On Brad Pitt
- “[Brad and Courteney Cox] are both people who couldn’t have been fat, and probably don’t have that gene anywhere in their body. And yet they sure did nail it [on Friends.]”
- “Ahh, wasn’t he great [on Friends]? I couldn’t agree more. And boy, let me tell you, he worked so hard. We had so much fun doing that show, and it was fun for me to have him come into my world and see what this was all about. And he so admired it, and it was great. But boy, I’ve never seen anybody so nervous.”
- “What can I say? He’s cute and he dresses well.”
- “We don’t not talk. When there’s something to congratulate or celebrate, there’s always an exchange. But there’s no charge on it.”
- “Why he’s the hottest man? Why? His soul, I think, that comes right out of here. His eyes, his heart. You know, that’s why I love him.”
- “We have exchanged a few very kind hellos and wishing you wells and sending you love and congratulations on your babies. I have nothing but absolute admiration for him, and… I’m proud of him! I think he’s really done some amazing things.”
- “There’s something about his spirit and his soul and gentleness and kindness. He’s probably one of the kindest people I know and mindful of people and thoughtful. He’s just a good person. He opens the car door for me, sends flowers… all those fun things. He’s a gentleman.”
- “I’m going to pay my $7.50 and see [Snatch] at a movie theatre when it opens over here. I can’t wait, Brad’s supposed to be just wonderful and the movie’s supposed to be great.”
- “He has a talent for architecture and interiors that is mind-blowing. That’s inspiring… he inspires me.”
- “He’s so good. He’s so good at what he does, you just buy it. He’s also not afraid for it not to be good, which is a wonderful attitude. I admire it so much. Try it, see if it works. If it doesn’t, move on.”
- “He is so wise. He is a sweet, wise soul.”
- “Brad and I were driving and we saw an old couple driving. The lady was at the wheel, and her hands were shaking. He touched her hand, and he seemed to say, ‘I’ve loved you for 7,000 years and I still do.’ I hope that’s Brad and me one day.”
- “I can’t imagine being with any other human being. I married [Brad] because he was the love of my life.”
- “The first time my husband kissed me I stopped breathing. He literately took my breath away.”
- “I knew Brad and I would hit it off, because my dog, Norman, loved him.”
On Prince Charles
- “He said, ‘How are you? It’s nice of you to come all this way. Is everything going well on Friends?’ I said, ‘Yes, and thank you for asking,’ Then he goes, ‘Well, I suppose I should watch it then.’ I thought that was kind of sweet, him admitting he’d never seen the show.”
On John C. Reilly
- “Awesome. We had all these pillows in between us when we were having these love making scenes but he didn’t understand that I’d never had - I’d never done love making scenes. I was terrified.”
On Rob Reiner
- “He’s fun to be around and he’s so interesting on many levels. But, he also just has a nice balance. He was really good at giving Sarah [her character] a focus, a point of view. It had a couple of incarnations, this script and when I first read it, Sarah didn’t have as clear a point of view. She was very reactionary to all the characters that surrounded her. And so he was really helpful in giving her more of a thorough line. He’s just good with funny… heart and funny and he was an actor and that’s good.”
On Joan Rivers
- (with sarcasm) “Now there’s a woman with taste! (without sarcasm) I stay far away from her.”
On Julia Roberts
- “I would love to do something with Julia Roberts. I love her. I mean, I just love her as a person. I think we’d have fun doing it.”
- “What was so fascinating to me was how these film actors came in and we’re terrified, thinking, ‘Oh God, what are they going to think of this little nutty circus?’ And they’d come in and they were all nervous and out of their element. Not everyone was nervous - Julia Roberts just knocked it out of the park. Everybody knocked it out of the park, but I didn’t see her as being afraid at all.”
On Paul Rudd
- “Paul is fantastic and he’s the same person he was in 1997.”
- “[I can] kind of see what he means [when he says he thinks he's a little depressed but he's] become very family-oriented.”
- “[Working with him on Wanderlust] was exactly the same [as the other times I've worked with him]. He’s just a great friend, he’s a great actor.”
- “Steve [Zahn] and I have known each other since the second season of Friends when he played Phoebe’s husband. So I knew who he was but when we did Object of My Affection, I got to know him better. We just had a ball. Steve and (costar) Paul Rudd became like Frick and Frack during that shoot. They actually had T-shirts made that said ”Double Trouble.” So I knew he would be lots of fun on the set of Management.”
- “Paul’s such a goof, it was impossible [to stay serious].”
On Deborah Rush
- “Deborah Rush is brilliant. Hysterical.”
On Adam Sandler
- “I’ve seen him shirtless. You’ve all seen him shirtless. He looks great. He just covers it up with the big and the baggy… The Big and the Baggy. The Big, the Bold, and the Baggy. That’s our next movie.”
- “I think his secret is that he’s a relatable guy. He’s funny. Beyond funny. He’s relatable, he’s accessable, he’s loved by everybody and his movies are really, just, funny.”
- “Smart, on it, fast, great improvisation, really great actor, amazing to his crew, amazing to his actors, wonderful muscle tone, edible.”
- “We just had that much fun pretty instantly. I mean, because we had known each other for over 20 years and we had been waiting for just the right thing, honestly.”
- “What did we find surprising about each other? [He] make[s] a great pizza, [he] swim[s] a lot. [He] like[s] the water a lot.”
- “Oh I love [his kids], I was so happy to finally get the love from Sadie. It was just patience and finally I got it. She couldn’t get enough of me, I got hugs and everything.”
- “Adam and I have a sense of humor that is so in sync, we could basically just say nothing, our eyes would lock and we’d burst out into laughter. I mean we just had a really nice sort of chemistry.”
- “Our scenes, our takes would go on ridiculously long, though. I mean, we would - I mean, there was no film, it was all digital - so, you know, 45-minute long takes. We’re sitting there, cracking ourselves up.”
- “I was ready to be silly and go with a full-out comedy, and it was the first time I felt truly sure about what I was walking into. Because the last couple of movies, I wasn’t completely sure, and I should have probably trusted my gut. For whatever reason, they all happen the way they’re supposed to. Honestly, just Adam saying, ‘Trust me, kid’ - I said yes. Of course, with Adam, you improv a lot. We’re trying to be goofballs. I’m actually comfortable in goofdom. Not taking myself seriously is one of my favorite things to do, because I don’t. Ever.”
- “We’ve been friends for I would say 21 years.”
On Telly Savalas
- “I was close to Telly when I was younger. He was one of the nicest people.”
On Diane Sawyer
- “She’s amazing. I mean, why would you - I mean she’s the object of sexual desire. So awesome. And she’s - I mean, how old is she? She’s ageless.”
On David Schwimmer
- “He’s an excellent actor. He’s an unbelievable partner to have on camera. It was very hard to get through scenes with him. He was very funny and he’s, you know, comes from The Looking Glass theater company, is extremely trained and he’s just - he was great.”
- “He has amazing control of his body. Just as an actor, physical comedy, dance - I think he just masters his instrument beautifully. He’s really good at all of that.”
- “He’s one of the sexiest men alive.”
- “We do have fun together. He’s a great kisser.”
- “Sadly, David and I will be never more than friends. He’s my type but it’s hard to get romantically involved with a person you’ve seen as a friend.”
- “I love when Schwimmer and I have stuff together, it’s always dreamy.”
- “I love the scenes with Schwimmer.”
- “David, we love you. You’re a brother, you’re a big pain in the ass, but we love you.”
- “Friends isn’t really known for its love scenes, but kissing David isn’t so bad.”
- “He’s my type.”
- “We really liked each other, David and I. We both were so excited. Maybe it’s [the] unrequited love [between Ross and Rachel] that touches people? Rooting for two people that you know should be together.”
- “Schwimmer is just perfect. We just feed off each other.”
- “It’s like having three brothers, and we hate them like brothers and we love them like brothers. They’re your typical ‘boys.’ If you were to look up the term ‘boys’ in the dictionary, you’d see their three smiling faces looking back at you.”
- “He’s awful! No, he’s a great kisser.”
- “David Schwimmer is like a shell. Getting anything out of him is like pulling teeth. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in a relationship with him.”
- “David is the most committed, talented person.”
- “Schwimmer looks a lot like my high-school sweetheart. So yeah, I’d be attracted to him. I love that sweet puppy-dog-eyed kind of thing.”
- “[David as a director is] fantastic! He is one of our favorites. The first time we were all nervous and boy, it’s the most fun week we had in a long time! He directed us, he told us, he gave us great things to play. He was just awesome!”
- “Schwimmy- Schwimmster is ehm… We have a lot of history. He’s ehm… all right. No, again - really smart and ehm, helps me figure out things that I don’t understand. I can really be honest with David and speak my mind… and I thank [him] for letting me do that.”
On Tom Shadyac
- “Tom pitched a fantastic story which I found very moving. I just thought it was great. It’s hard to infuse spirituality into a bold commercial movie, and that’s what Tom and the writers have done without hitting you over the head with it.”
- “Tom is an amazing captain of his ship. There’s not one person in the company who doesn’t love him. Sometimes, making a movie can be tedious, but he makes it pleasurable and fun.”
On David Spade
- “I’ve known David Spade for a while so it was sort of fun to do that bit [on Saturday Night Live] with him.”
On Will Speck and Josh Gordon
- “I love our directors so much. Such a beautifully choreographed combination and collaboration.”
On Will Speck
- “Will Speck and I, another fellow Greek.”
On Steven Spielberg
- “It was unbelievable to talk with Steven and be able to discover what a wonderful, down-to-earth guy he is. I mean, you just never know. And he was absolutely wonderful. Steven Spielberg was fascinated by the whole television world.”
On Ben Stiller
- “He’s the best. He’s just everything that an actress would hope for. He gives you everything.”
- “Ben Stiller is just… pff… I don’t even know how to put words to what he can do.”
On Meryl Streep
- “Bellying up to Meryl Streep. She’s such a great lady. That’s how comfortable she makes you feel.”
On Barbra Streisand
- “I just loved her… the voice, the movies. I mean, come on. Everything about her was so delightful and endearing. Her voice would kind of send me into this chilled state. I mean, I just think of so many times after school I’d play it, or me and my mom would drive to Jersey to go to the mall, blaring Barbara Streisand in the car. The best part was getting to meet her. She just sort of topped my ideal of what she would be like, thank God! She was really just cute, and funny and relatable. We’ve had some nice little dinners together.”
- “And then I met [Barbra] on New Year’s Eve, and we just chatted, and we went through midnight together, me and her and Jim, and then we had a couple of dinners and I told her about this idea and Harper’s Bazaar, we told them the idea and they loved it, and I told her and she loved it, and then we even had dinner a couple of nights before and we were just looking at old photos and she was just excited about it. And she’s darling and lovely and humble, and is an icon, and it was really special for me to get to play around like that and do that, so I was really happy.”
- “Someone said to me, ‘If I had Barbra’s voice for just one day,’ and I said, ‘Nah, I don’t want to be greedy. If I had her voice for just one shower — just a shower’s worth — I would be happy.’”
- “I’ve loved her since I was a kid, and all of a sudden there she is, and she’s just like someone you’ve always known. You know when you meet people you idolize and then you walk away from the conversation thinking, ‘Well, that was a disappointment; they were kinder and more fabulous in my mind’? Well, she was wonderful, and you could talk to her about anything. So, I happened to be talking to her and Jim [Streisand's husband, James Brolin] when it struck midnight. They said, ‘Excuse us,’ kissed each other, and then, very politely, kissed me.”
- “Barbra inspires me because there isn’t anything she hasn’t done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She’s a true renaissance woman.”
- “[My favorite Streisand films are] The Way We Were and A Star Is Born. Both pretty great.”
- “I had a long conversation with Barbra about directing because I directed a short a couple years ago, and if I don’t do it again soon, I’m going to burst out of my skin. And we also love interior design. Also, we are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming, and you just stay true to what you love to do.”
- “[If we were to do a style swap] I’d put her in jeans and a great wedge and a beautiful blouse and a blazer. She’s got legs, man. She’s got a cute butt. She wears little black tights, she’s beautiful.”
- “I think Barbra Streisand is great, I think she’s awesome. She’s one of our great female performers. If I could open my mouth and have that sound come out, I would… She is [a good comedienne.] She’s wonderful.”
On Jason Sudeikis
- “I’ve known [him and Jason Bateman] for so long. They’re such, like, brothers. They’re so good, they’re so fun. Bateman I’ve known for so many years and Sudeikis… it makes you feel really lucky. One gets to work with these guys that are just in their prime. It’s so awesome.”
On Nick Swardson
- “I love that boy. At the table read, I couldn’t handle the amount of laughter.”
- “He’s my new favorite person – at the table read, I couldn’t handle the amount of laughter.”
On Keith Urban
- “Brings [Nicole Kidman] Chinese food [...] when we were working those late nights. He’d hang out with us [on set].”
On Vince Vaughn
- “I would say in rehearsals [our chemistry] pretty much kicked in. There it was, it was happening and we were having a ball.”
- “[What would we have done if she had not taken the part?] Thankfully we didn’t have to go through that. She said yes right away. Well, not right away. But she did say yes.”
- “I felt really safe with him. That was the other thing. I immediately felt comfortable and like I’d known him for awhile.”
- “We had the best time. He’s just a really easygoing, unaffected, no-ego guy. You know, it was refreshing.”
- “Working with him is like working with a tennis pro. He’s the cream of the crop. He is also an amazing dramatic actor. He thinks, he listens, and he is not up there. He’s a really generous actor and likes to try things. I also love to try things. You don’t always get that kind of fun and feel like you’re on an equal playing field.”
- “I adore him. He’s delicious and funny. He’s got all the colors of the rainbow. But I don’t want to be a rebound girl. I feel like it will happen when it happens.”
- “Working with Vince is just like working with a pro tennis player, if you’re into tennis. He’s such a professional, he’s so good at his job, he’s so funny and he’s such a great actor, aside from being comedic. So for me, you get those moments pretty rarely. You get to have the kind of volleys as I like to say.”
- “Yeah, you can kind of tell pretty quickly when you work with someone, ‘Oh, this is going to be easy. Oh, this is going to be a tough one.’ He asks questions. He listens, he’s interested in other people. It’s not just about him.”
- “We just met and had it instantly. I felt really safe with him. I immediately felt comfortable and like I’d known him for a while, so that helped with our chemistry in the movie.”
- “The way we would volley together. You don’t get that all the time. You really don’t. And we always felt we were pretty much in sync.”
- “His improvisational skills, as you can see, are just genius. He’s very, very, very dedicated and tireless.”
- “I call Vince my defibrillator. He literally brought me back to life. My first gasp of air was a big laugh! It was great. I love him. He’s a bull in a china shop. He was lovely and fun and perfect for the time we had together. And I needed that. And it sort of ran its course.”
- “He deserves half the credit for [the People's Choice Award I won].”
- “He is really charismatic on screen. He is a very interesting human being and that just makes him a more interesting actor.”
- “I knew him more as a dramatic guy than the comedy guy. I knew him from Clay Pigeons, from A Cool, Dry Place, from Swingers. And all those movies you knew Vince Vaughn was in that you didn’t necessarily [see]…”
- “He’s very funny. He’s brilliantly funny. He’s hilarious. He’s unbelievably ferociously talented and has work ethic that is inspiring. It was pure fun. It’s great when you can have that thing where you can have a good volley with someone.”
- “He’s a good friend. First and foremost he’s a really good, loyal friend. Fiercely loyal.”
- “[He's] a dear friend and fantastic co-star [...] who’s so funny and talented.”
On Mark Wahlberg
- “Oh, it was amazing. I love him. First of all, he’s so talented, and makes such amazing, seamless transitions from character to character. He’s good at what he does and he becomes that character. He put on those leather pants, and that was pretty much all he had to do. There was no Marky Mark anywhere to be seen.”
- “He’s just wonderful in it. He’s such a good actor. I felt I was a better actor because of him. And he’s so sweet, with his crazy long locks. Mark’s so sweet, so it wasn’t too hard to pretend.”
On Warren the Ape
- “Can I tell you how much I love Warren the Ape? Is that crazy? I have a headshot on my wall in my kitchen. I’m such a fan, I went to the premiere of the show — mind you, my friend is a producer of it — but I had no idea I would become that obsessed with Warren the Ape. [Dr. Drew Pinsky] is of course, quite helpful in that. I actually got to meet Warren and then I got an autographed 8-by-10 that is proudly hung on my wall in my kitchen. Trust me, I’ve already written ideas [about a possible guest spot on his show] out in my mind,” she said. “I’m not kidding.”
On Bruce Willis
- “I had a blast working with Bruce Willis. Working with him was a fantastic experience.”
On Owen Wilson
- “He’s so sweet, he’s so charming, he’s so funny. And just great at what he does.”
- “Owen Wilson is just… He’s just great. We have so much fun playing off of each other. I mean, God knows, he’s funny. That’s a given. But he has some moments that are just really special. [In Marley & Me, John and Jenny] hit some rough patches, these two, and he’s just - it’s just been a ball.”
- “I think Owen in this movie [Marley & Me] is… has shown a part of his… something that I’ve never seen before and it was exquisite. I’ve never seen it and I wanna see more of that.”
- “We’d met over the years. We actually had a meeting 10 years ago or so for a project that we ended up not doing. So [Marley & Me] was our first chance to work together and we got along very well. It was an instant friendship.”
- “There are times when you have chemistry and it shows on screen but you’ve rarely spoken to each other. But Owen and I got along instantly. We have a bunch of friends in common and we hit it off as pals so not only was the chemistry there for the screen, but also it was pleasant to go to work and see your friend. ”
- “We are friends and we had a really great time from the beginning to the end [of shooting Marley & Me].”
- “Owen Wilson is just great. He’s so good at his job, so professional, and such a generous actor. We had a lot of fun playing off of each other, and he has some moments in the film that are just really special.”
- “I have to tell you, Owen and I had a very instant, instant admiration for one another. I’ve loved his work for so long. We’d met briefly throughout the years, but it just was an instant chemistry. He’s so smart and his humor is so unique and so intelligent that it was just a great volley. He’s so good in the movie. He just plays an amazing man who goes through an incredible journey. We’ve never seen Owen do this. He’s so powerful, and what he accesses is really beautiful, and helped me to access all of that as well.”
- “It was an instant ease when we met and started rehearsing, and I think it’s rare. Sometimes you actually really like the person you are having good chemistry with. We lucked out. It was fun to be at work and play these people.”
- “Owen Wilson is so divine in this film. I’ve never seen him play a part like this. He was a man; he was a husband; he was a father. And I feel like, how brave of him, to walk through the year that he walked through.”
- “He has no temper, no ego, he’s collaborative and funny and sweet.”
- “Everything he went through in the last year really allowed for a beautiful performance. He arrives in this film [Marley & Me].”
On Oprah Winfrey
- “I just love her so much. She makes you feel like we’re all figuring it out together. She has just been a very good friend to me.”
- “I met Oprah first when we did Friends. She did a show for the ending of Friends. She came to the coffee shop and then we just got along real well.”
- “I just love her so much. She makes you feel like we’re all figuring it out together. She has just been a very good friend to me.”
On Reese Witherspoon
- “How cute is that little one?”
On Tiger Woods
- “Tiger Woods teaching me how to swing a golf club. In four-inch stilettos.”
On Robin Wright
- “She was amazing [in Room 10]. We literally felt - kept saying to each other, ‘There’s nothing she can’t do. She’s always [so natural with it.]‘ She hand-acts. She foot-acts, she back-acts, she does everything. You just want to watch her.”
On Xzibit
- “He’s the nicest guy. The first day I met him he held a gun to my head, and he was terrified after every take that he was somehow hurting me, and he was the sweetest guy on the planet.”
On Steve Zahn
- “Steve and I have known each other since the second season of Friends when he played Phoebe’s husband.
- “It was impossible [to keep a straight face when acting opposite Steve]! Steve can just give me a look and I’ll lose it. Pretty much everything he does makes me laugh. I think part of it is because he’s so accessible and open.”
- “I couldn’t wait to get to work every day. He made me laugh harder than anybody.”
- “We’ve known each other since The Friendship Show. It’s called that in Japan - it’s called The Friendship Show. It was a couple years ago. He did the second season.”
- “[He's] the best, my favorite. [He's] my absolute love. I’ve known him for so many years.”
- “The way Steve played, there was not even a risk of [encouraging stalkers.] I think if you’re playing against that, because he’s not playing creepy, it’s fine. He’s playing true, and so earnestly and innocently.”
- “Steve was the best. He really is. Just on every level.”
- “It was absolute, like, mutual admiration. And we just loved each other. Loved, loved, loved. And we knew each other. We did a movie together a long time ago – together and – although we didn’t work together that much at that time but we had a ball then and he was also on Friends and he was also, so you know. He’s also just one of the kindest people that you’ll ever meet. I don’t know if you’ve – he just keep, he, like, oozes kindness and sincerity and it helps for, you know. I always think I’m only as good as the actor I’m working with and he really just – he’s right there. His presence, all right here. You don’t have to, like, sit there and go, ‘Whoo, boy, I’ve got to work hard to get some out of this guy’ or the girl or whatever.”

On the cast of Derailed
- “We actually had a great dinner together when I got to Chicago. We stayed out way too late, and heard the great music Chicago is famous for. The people are lovely. It’s one of the sweetest groups of people with whom I’ve worked.”
On her grandmother
- “My grandmother. She’s a strong woman who led a difficult life. She came from Greece with her children, and she made a beautiful home and raised an amazing family.”
On the cast of 30 Rock
- “They’re such a well-oiled machine. Amazing people. Amazing talent. Funny, kind and awesome!”
On Clyde, her animal co-star in Marley & Me
- “I walked onto the set and put my sweater and my bag down on the couch, and that dog leapt up onto the couch, grabbed my sweater and started ripping it. [The trainers] said, ‘good, good boy!’ and gave him treats. The set was a toy.” (Clyde is one of 22 dogs on the set)
On the female cast of Friends with Money
- “It was great. A great group of women. I’ve never worked with all women. It was like camp. Actor camp. I felt very supported.”
On the cast/crew of Friends
- “I see Courteney every week, being the godmother of her little baby girl and I last week saw Matty Perry and Matty LeBlanc. It’s not an effort to keep up with them, we just do it.” (2005)
- I see Courteney [Cox] every week. And Lisa [Kudrow] I haven’t seen in a while, but you know, we’re all still friends and we will be forever. Maybe. I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’d like to think we will be. I just saw Matthew [Perry] last week, so yeah. And Matt LeBlanc I speak to.”
- “You can really only talk with each other. Everybody else has this [attitude] of ‘Oh, yeah, cry me a river, tough life!’”
- “They’ve formed me to the actor that I’ve become. All of them. I learned something from all of them. I’m inspired by all of them.”
- “We are all very close because the six of us have been there at crossroads in each other’s lives. We’ve been there at each other’s weddings or when we’ve met our life partners. Important times.”
- “Every single person in this cast is my family. They feel like a part of my family. And what I appreciate about them is how everybody’s work is consistent and everybody’s work is committed. What I admire is the evolution of everybody’s craft, which has been so much fun to watch unfold as we all learned our comedy chops. We’ve all learned together how to be better actors. I learn from these guys every single day I walk on to the set. Just on our first two days back for this last season, we were laughing gut-wrenching laughter that gives me such a high. I’m going to miss them. I’m going to miss Matthew Perry making me laugh and then making me cry. I’m going to miss all of them. And I am going to see them. There’s no way I’m not - they’re not leaving my life. There’s just no way. Hopefully at least, we all say that. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. But I can’t tell you how much I love and respect this cast.”
- “Bright Kauffman Crane have been so supportive of us doing other jobs. It feels as if mom and dad want their kids to do well, and they’ve presented us with every opportunity to explore other venues while we’re still doing the show. It’s amazing they’ve done this. The fact that I was able to do two movies while I was shooting a show not that it was fun, not would I ever do it again. But yes, I could do it. Do I want to? No. But they facilitated that for me, and they worked really hard, and this cast really dealt with my pain-in-the-ass schedule, as we do for everybody when they have to leave. I am forever grateful for that flexibility and support, and for the excitement for it all. They really wanted us to do well and have lives beyond this place.”
- “We’re all with Friends until Friends dies. If one of us goes, we all go. One of us wouldn’t leave. It wouldn’t be the show it is without each of us.”
- “When you watch the show in reruns… it’s so funny to be flipping channels and see an old episode and think, ‘God we were awful. Such babies.’”
- “The boys are like our brothers. We love our boys.”
- “[The show ending is] like a divorce nobody wants.”
- “We really care for each other, making sure that everybody’s okay.”
- “We’ve all cried. We don’t know what it’s going to be like. Like we didn’t know what it was going to be like when we started, we have no idea [what it will be like at the end]. We’re all gonna be blithering idiots.”
- “It hits in moments and that’s when you get all teary and weepy.”
- “It’s hard. It’s just 10 years of this incredibly group of people and it’s weird that it’s ending because it doesn’t seem like it really needs to but it does.”
- “It is an absolute bonus to make friends out of colleagues, but we are genuinely friends and our relationships grow stronger every day. We rely on each other for strength because we’ve been through so much in our lives together already.”
On her girlfriends
- “I have so much love. I have love. My women friends – they’re all my mothers, they’re all my sisters, they’re all my partners, they’re all my wives, my everything. It’s hard to find a man who can live up to any of them.”
- “They’re dependable; they’re loyal. They’re honest. We’re all from broken families. You find each other in your 20s, and you learn to sort of parent each other. We take care of each other.”
On her dogs, Dolly and Norman
- “She’s a big dog who needs to run free. Norman just really wants to sleep. He’s my baby boy.”
On her exes
- “I keep in touch with them. I have no animosity towards any of them. I think if you let the proper time go by, you should. You spent quality time together and meant something to one another. It’s not like somebody died - you’re all still on the planet.”
On cast/crew of Office Space
- “I worked for two weeks on [Office Space]. I didn’t keep any of the flairs. I was just - I was so in and out and had not a clue what I was doing. I just loved Mike Judge and you know, I just thought it’d be a fun little - I wasn’t working that summer. You know what I mean? It was my summer off and this was two weeks in Austin that just turned into this hysterical - I mean, not for anything I did - it was truly the movie and these actors were amazing.”
On her friends
- “I think I have great friends. I have a chosen family, as I call them. I’ve had them for fifteen years. I’ve been best friends with some of the girls for twenty five years, and we all started together. We’re not all actors. There are writers, a photographer, a producer, a teacher and a therapist. Everybody had different jobs, and we all keep each other sane. And nobody lets you get away with anything.”
On Norman, her dog
- “[They say once you get the first tattoo, you get addicted.] That’s what I’ve heard. And I understand that. No, that’s it. [The tattoo on my foot] is just for my Norman.”
